I'll echo YCR on the computers for the most part. A lot of people have Macs which is great if you love Mac. The bundle is pretty comparable in price to what you would pay if you got it from Apple, with the warranty and such I think it comes out a bit cheaper. I am pretty tech savvy (I build my own desktops) and I took one look at the PC bundles and said "No Way!" They are very overpriced. I would recommend an Asus laptop. I have a 14 inch Asus laptop (UL80-vt model number) that I got for 680+free shipping on Amazon and it's been great. I could have bought one, had it break and then bought another and had it overnighted and still saved hundreds of dollars off of some of UVA's bundles. When you are getting a laptop remember:
You will be carrying it around, don't get some ginormous if you live far from school or are 5'1" 104 lb.s
Computer speed is cheap these days. If you are just doing law school stuff (typing, searching, surfing, listening to music and watching movies) then the difference between an i5 and an i7 is not a big one. Don't sweat 3GB vs. 4 GB of RAM too much. Storage is cheap, etc.
Build quality is important. Compaq and HP, I believe, have poor build quality and are prone to breaking. I have had several break on me. Try to look up reviews and get something that is solidly put together.

+1 to Asus, my office switched from Dell to Asus laptops last year and we are all several orders of magnitude happier. Also, Asus comes with 2 years warranty instead of the standard 1, and they also throw in one year of accidental coverage, which is great.

Got my acceptance call a little more than a week ago... Yay!

Is there a thread for financial aid from UVA?
I've looked through TLS forums for LSAT and application tips, but looking for financial aid advice is new to me..

Another computer related inquiry:

I have a nice desktop already, so I'm planning on getting a very basic laptop in order to have something portable. Would a netbook be sufficient for whatever I would need the laptop for since I'd have my desktop at home?

You have to take finals and notes on your portable PC. I wouldn't want to do that on less than a full keyboard. The netbook keyboard + my size hands = sloppy illegible tests. Also, you will spend a lot of time at school working so you probably want something with a little kick. I have desktop and laptop and use dropbox to keep things squared away between them, it works out well.

Just got my ED acceptance call today!! I cannot even believe I got in. In fact, I was so certain of my inevitable rejection that I've honestly given no thought to the idea of going to UVA and living in Charlottesville. Amazing, no doubt, but I hope there are others feeling as overwhelmed as I currently do.

With all that doubt, mind posting numbers? Or PMing me?

Me too, im very curious if they strayed away from their very formulaic ED admissions process

I was the quintessential reverse splitter: 4.0 gpa and 161 lsat. Apparently my letters of recommendation/personal statement/soft etc. were very persuasive...at least that's what the dean told me during the phone call. I'm sure applying ED helped as well.

Highly unexpected and appreciated turn of events!

Still very formulaic. You were basically guaranteed admission as your GPA was above the 75th percentile (realistically it needed only be over median).
Only with ED, you would have surely been dinged without it, as i would have as well so not trying to be mean

So you're saying you're guaranteed admission with a GPA over median for ED?

As long as its above a 3.9 and you have a 160 or better (definitely a floor there) yes you should be admitted ED (as long as you do it relatively early)

Let me qualify a litttle more. You need to have GOOD?GREAT lor's and a resume that shows you were not worthless in college and did nothing besides study and party. So having honors/awards. being the president/exec board for a prof organization or lots of community service. You need to show that you had a great GPA while doing many other things. a 4.0 164 with a blank resume is not going to get you into UVA. I had the same experience as Utexas where Dugas commented on how great my LOR's were and my Resume showing great success.

This is good news - my resume is above average for coming out of undergrad and my LOR's will be good. Hopefully my October LSAT will come back 160+.

If so, and UVA is your number 1 i would get it in ED fast, being really early is coming to an end i would say
