No. Many/most people leave Saturday... if not, it's more just of an explore-Charlottesville day then anything formal.

What's on Friday nights? I plan to drive back to Philly on Friday night as opposed to Sat. morning. I have class Sat. afternoon. But I don't wan to miss anything good!

Just registered for 3/18. So def. coming!

Also, I think I totally missed that you got into UVA. Congrats!

Thanks! Just happened Friday  great scholly offer means now it's up on my list!

I will check out the full schedule, I can either leave late or leave early next morning. It's only maybe 4 hours from me.

I am interested. Word on the street is that it is a little farther away from the Law school, but I guess I don't care as much since I'll be bringing a car.

Question for current students: I keep hearing all these warnings DO NOT PRING PARENTS/SIGNIFICANT OTHERS.

Would it be weird to bring my sister to a social event at ASW? She's 23 and a student at UVA right now- she wouldn't really stand out. It's not at all essential but it'd be cool to spend some time with her while I'm there :)

Really? I actually thought some schools do have some events organized for significant others/parents.

I think the visceral reaction against bringing the parents is definitely overblown. If they are just there as curious/casual observers, I don't see the big deal. It's not like they're going to start break-dancing, or are they?

My mom is cool with hanging out inconspicuously in the background during ASW. But she wants something to do while I'm out gallivanting on Friday night (we're leaving Saturday afternoon). Any recommendations?

Copied from ASW:

Guests

We understand that a decision about where to attend law school can affect more than just an admitted student. However, space at Open House sessions is reserved for admitted students only. Your guests (such as parents and significant others) should not attend programmatic events, but are welcome to tour the facilities and relax in any of our public spaces. Guests also are welcome to attend the "Parents and Partners" session, which runs concurrently with the student life panel.

I'm interested in any info on 1br's as well. I had marked UVA off my list expecting no $$, but was very pleasantly surprised. Pretty certain I'll be attending next year.

I just looked at their site and damn it looks sweet. If I had a car, I'd be there for sure.

You can bring your parents to ASW as long as they keep quiet during the student sessions. Apparently a few years ago some mom asked how her son was going to be able to eat without a 24/7 dining hall or something like that.

There's nothing specific going on Friday night as far as I know but I'm sure it'll be another chance to witness UVA social life in action.

Should I be concerned to be one of the oldest there? I think the packet said age range up to 37. Does that mean it's a pretty young crowed? (I had to ask since beer pong was discussed - which I love btw)

I think the average UVA 1L is 24-25. That said, there is definitely an older-student contingent. It's not huge, but it exists.

<------- Still younger than almost all of the 1Ls.

Do they mix well with the younger students? I have not had any problem so far with other younger grad students (well I look like about 27 or so, it helps) I wonder if the culture there would be similar?
