Anyone know anything about spouses and whether they are permitted to use UVA gyms? I'm happy to pay a fee if necessary, but I'd hate to pay for a second membership for myself, seeing as how my UVA membership is going to be fairly pricey already.

Another question: how necessary is an optical drive on your laptop at UVA? I have a Lenovo that I love but does not have a built in CD/DVD drive-just curious if this is needed for exam software, etc, as I'd prefer not to buy a new computer unless I absolutely have to.

They make external optical drives, fairly cheap. I see the responses above, but you can always get an external one for whatever reason.sundance95 wrote:Another question: how necessary is an optical drive on your laptop at UVA? Re: UVA Class of 2014
Congrats to all the admitted people on this thread. I'm currently a 1L and I'm looking for a roommate for next year, so I thought this would be a good spot to post. I'm in a top floor 2B/2B with a balcony at the end of Ivy closest to the law school, so it's basically the same distance as the Arlington Blvd places (but unlike 2 bedroom places on Arlington, you get your own bathroom). Some people (including my current roommate) move out of Ivy after 1L but I'm staying put because it's so darn convenient.
My current roommate and I split the rent and utilities and it's always been less than $600/month each for everything (including cable/internet). Ivy raised their rates slightly but the new lease is at the old rate, so you would be saving a little compared to getting a new lease.
I prefer not to study at the apartment so I'm not around a lot, but I do like to have friends over occasionally. I like to keep the common areas clean, but in general I'm pretty easy going. If anyone wants to meet up and see the place during ASW (or any other time you're visiting) I'd be happy to do so. Shoot me a PM if you're interested or have any questions about me or the apartment

Yeah, I have one, but didn't want to count on it in the case of needing it for an exam. (i.e., if the software required having the optical disc in the drive to operate.)r6_philly wrote:They make external optical drives, fairly cheap. Do you guys think it would be too late to apply for Ivy or Grad Centre at the April ASW?

I'm guessing you'll be fine for the Grad Centre. I didn't apply till mid April two years ago, and I don't think the demand for it has since increased.ZiggyPink wrote:Do you guys think it would be too late to apply for Ivy or Grad Centre at the April ASW?

I have professors who can't figure out blackboard, so nothing would surprise me when it comes to technology...

Anybody TLSers heading to the March 18th ASW? I just signed up and will likely stay with a friend who is a 1L.

Well don't be a stranger haha...we have to figure out a way to meet up during the BBQ at 5:30. Do you know of any others coming to the March ASW? It looks like most people are going for April, but I am only about two hours away so I decided to attend.WVUCelticFan wrote:I'll be there.ksimon2007 wrote:Anybody TLSers heading to the March 18th ASW? In review since 2/9. Any idea by when UVA makes most of the decisions?

Re: UVA Class of 2014
Its the start of spring break for me, so the March one worked out nicely. I don't know of anyone else coming. I'm a late comer to the UVA threads, spent most of my time with W&M and W&L....then UVA surprised me with a nice offer. I may just pull the same trick I did at W&L's asw and wear a WVU shirt. Makes it pretty easy to identify me.ksimon2007 wrote:Well don't be a stranger haha...we have to figure out a way to meet up during the BBQ at 5:30. Do you know of any others coming to the March ASW? Hey guys, my cell phone agreement will be up about the time that school starts. Anyone have an idea about who has the best cell phone coverage/cheapest plans out there in C'ville? How's T-Mobile out there?

There is a ASW thread in the law school visit section as well. Use that one!
