Yeah, deferral from last cycle. I'll be more specific next time.

Whats a deferral exactly? They say, "We don't want you this year, but you can come next year?"

Re: UVA Class of 2014
They wanted X number of law students for the Class of 2013 and got a lot more matriculated than they wanted. They offered scholarships to certain people to entice them to defer until next year and reduce the number in the current class.nickbentley wrote:joemoviebuff wrote:I can guarantee at least one...inmans wrote:Anyone know how many deferalls from last year will be enrolling class of 2014?

I deferred before I realized they were throwing money at people to get them to wait a year.
But I'll be there!

So a deferral is a good thing, they end up giving you scholly? I wouldn't mind taking a year off just to work and have fun while waiting to go to an amazing LS...

Re: UVA Class of 2014
The Class of 2013 was overenrolled this year (more people accepting offers of admission than expected). To make room in the class, they offered some people money (I'm not sure how much, on average) to defer.
I think overenrollment has been a problem for the last couple years, but there's no saying that they won't get the balance right for the Class of 2014. I'm also not sure how they went about choosing who to ask to defer. I haven't been diligent in my TLS lurking for the last several months, so I'm sure you can find out from someone who knows better than I do.

Glad to see 2014 is already on the ball...looking forward to an unexpected year to save a little more cash and get even more excited about C-ville in 2011!

It's nice to see so many fellow deferrers. My money saving plan isn't going very well though.

I will post in this thread and the NU 2014 thread until either or both of those schools tell me to get lost. See you guys in Charlottesville! Or Chicago! Hopefully one or the other!

Traditional splitters from out of state seem to be who received the offers.jm19 wrote:The Class of 2013 was overenrolled this year (more people accepting offers of admission than expected). To make room in the class, they offered some people money (I'm not sure how much, on average) to defer.

Yup, I fit right into that category.Stringer Bell wrote:Traditional splitters from out of state seem to be who received the offers.
Have any of you been keeping in touch with the admissions council? After my deferral was confirmed, I haven't been in contact with them.
Anybody care to share what they are doing in their unexpected year off?

I hope that doesn't mean bad things for traditional splitters from out of state for this cycle.

Re: UVA Class of 2014
Guess I'm the first non-deferral in this thread.
Sent in my app late on September 2nd, went down to C'ville today (the 3rd) to visit a friend and check out the tour and Q & A session. Turned in my ED contract and left to get lunch, got a call asking me to come back, and was handed my acceptance. Shortest cycle evar? Might also be the cheapest due to my fee waiver, thanks very much UVA.
Dean Trujillo, Director Faulk, and the rest of the admissions department could not be more approachable and friendly and really add a personal touch to the process. Being informed of my acceptance in-person was an awesome gesture, something I'll never forget, and confirmed that I had made the right choice by EDing to Virginia. For those applying to UVA, I strongly suggest trying to make it there and speak with them in person.
For the curious, I was a non-URM 172/3.12 splitter with some years out of undergrad, and what I would rate as a strong PS, strong WE, believe I had strong LORs, and I wrote every additional essay I could (GPA addendum, Why Virginia, diversity statement). I use the past tense because I'm no longer a splitter-I'm just a UVA 0L! For the record, I also am a VA resident.
Looking forward to lurking in this thread all year and seeing everyone down there. Congrats in advance to my classmates.
