Will add myself to the spreadsheet, Dulc! See everyone there!
I had an airline do this last year, the idea was they charged to have a 'reserved seat' (ie. 15a, an aisle seat!) or something of that sort. the remainder of the passengers got random seats upon boarding.

Not sure if this is the same situation but it could be!
Ohhh, that could have been it. I thought they were telling me that I HAD to choose one, but it was probably optional. Oh well. Now I got a window, suckas!
artichoke wrote:Flying in to Michigan is expensive because it is in the middle of nowhere. If it's cheaper, you can fly in to Chicago. From there you can take a 3 hour amtrak ride to ann arbor, for relatively cheap. It's not the most convenient, but neither is landing at DTW. In fact, Chicago -> amtrak is probably more convenient for those without a car/local connections or who don't plan on renting a car. Amtrak goes right to downtown ann arbor.
That sounds more fun for next time! I love trains.

Detroit is a Delta hub. AA is hardly in the middle of nowhere. That's why it only costs like $150 from BWI to DTW. Try a different origin airport. For example, Dulles is far more expensive than BWI.

Edit: Also, if you think $300 is expensive try living in certain parts of Europe and paying $1,300-1,500 just to fly home.

What are folks' thoughts on negotiating with Mich for $? Dean's schollie recipients are told in the letter that it isn't UM's practice to compete, but I'm not entirely sure I buy that...

Does anyone have any knowledge on how firm this is? Given that $ is essentially a function of the LSAT score and nothing else (unless you have a low GPA, at which point you get dropped down), I'm curious whether applicants who get something initially are able to get more with competing offers from holistic schools - perhaps Penn or UVa.

I'm flying in for ASW #1 sort of late on Thursday - arriving at 1:00 PM. PM me if you're interested in a ride share from DTW to Ann Arbor. I still intend to go on one of the campus tours, as they run every ten minutes until 2:50 PM. I'll also post this on the Admitted Students Bulletin Board.

There's street parking all over AA. Some is metered ($1.20/hr and sundays are free) and some is free but farther away. There are some garages too.

A bunch of us are flying from BWI together, then splitting transportation to AA -- join us!

Or wiki:
The nearest major airport is Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (IATA: DTW, ICAO: KDTW), about 25 minutes away, from which it will probably be necessary to rent a car or have a friend pick you up. A taxi will cost you in the neighborhood of $45 one-way; alternatively, several shuttle services offer pre-booked trips for $30-35 one-way and $55-60 round-trip, with the cost per person decreasing as the size of the group increases. There are quite a lot of airport shuttle services [5], but the following will give you a place to start:

Ann Arbor Airport Shuttle, ☎ +1 734 394-1665, [6]. 24hr Phone Service. Reservations should be made at least one day in advance. 1 passenger is $35 one-way, $60 round-trip. edit
Ann Arbor - Detroit Metro Airport Shuttle, ☎ +1 734 507-9220, [7]. 1 passenger is $35 one-way, $55 round-trip. edit
Custom Transit, ☎ +1 734 971-5555, [8]. $57 round-trip. edit
Michigan Flyer, ☎ +1 888 643-5637, [9]. This is a scheduled coach service rather than a taxi service, and so is significantly cheaper. Drops you off at the Sheraton Four Points hotel; use AATA route 36 (weekday only) to get to U-M central campus and downtown. $30 round-trip. edit
SelectRide, ☎ +1 734 663-8898 or 866-663-8898, [10]. Reservations should be made at least two days in advance. $29.50 per person to the airport, $36.50 per person from. edit
*If* I get in I'll see you guys there...

Damn. I had just decided not to drive since I was going alone but am already registered. The good news is my plane ticket is only $166 round trip.

I am leaning toward going to the first one. Anyone else planning to fly out of SFO? It looks like the only direct flight is Delta for around $350.
