I can't decide whether I'm jealous of all the summer starters or happy that I have a summer vacation.

For the summer starters, do you have a full week of orientation, and what does the daily schedule look like? i.e. what time do you wrap up every day?

I'm trying to figure out what fall orientation is going to look like since I may need to leave town that Friday.

Has anyone gotten a lease for a "single suite" or "economy single"? Or has it only been regular singles and doubles?

We actually only had one day of orientation and a service day+BBQ at the law quad. I hear that fall starters have a full week of orientation though

I am completely clueless when it comes to computing, but what laptops do you all have/are you getting for law school? I need a new one and am thinking of getting the Macbook Pro - is that fine or would I need to put it through bootcamp or whatever? the UMich website says: "Electronic Bluebook (EBB) is compatible with both Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). There is no need to upgrade for compatibility." is that operating system already within the MBP? please forgive my total ignorance. THANK YOU

I had a lot of problems with my computer this week (much of it my own fault for forgetting my power chord at my parent's) but the big thing is to be careful of some Toshiba computers because they have air cards that don't work with the wireless network without some awkward configuration. They made it work but if I ever had to rest the system I think I'd have to get the IT people to fix it again. All the people that had macs seemed to get along without much problem though.

You won't have to use bootcamp, I think a majority of people here have macs. And yes, if you get a macbook pro it'll come with snow leopard.

Is it just me or is the wolverine access financial aid page really confusing? You have: "my FA status" "Fin Aid Review Status" "Accept/Decline Fin Aid" "Financial Aid Award Summary" "Fin Aid Documents" "Fin Aid Award Notices" and "Loan Summary"

What the hell?? They couldn't consolidate that in a more meaningful and comprehensive way? I'm always looking at the categories like "well... it could be this... but it also sounds like this.. or this.."

I'm not sure I've even seen the wolverine access financial aid page yet. I think I need to spend a little time digging into everything... but in the meantime, everyone got an email from Dean Z yesterday about the second deposit due June 15, yeah? Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see her specify the amount. Is it $600?

Geez, I hope it's not $600! This whole seat deposits + security deposits (for my new place) before I get my loan moneyz is seriously killing my wallet right now. Dean Z, how am I supposed to buy football tickets now??

The second one is $300 (for a total of $600 over both deposits.) I hope you can still go to the games!

Big tip about our deposits--they don't automatically give it back to you. Once all you fall starters get here, make sure that they give it to you; I noticed it hadn't been applied to my tuition (I just started this summer), and when I asked them about it they said that they could deposit it into my account no problem. Even though $300 is change compared to my loans total, it was nice to see again :)

Thanks for the info guys!

Whirledpeas, I'm feeling you on this money crunch! I'm starting to wonder whether I'll be able to take my end-of-summer vacation after all..

Also, all of you with a money crunch...be prepared that your student loans will not disperse until around the first day or two of classes...not orientation.

I'm just planning on finding the nearest bagel place for dumpster diving.

1) I don't think so.

2) See one.

3) Yes, call the admissions office and tell them you plan on sending it in immediately. They'll probably be cool about it.

Has anybody/has everybody applied for their Grad PLUS loans yet? On the financial aid forum the sense I was getting was that we should wait for our school to tell us it's time to apply and give us any special instructions we might need. I just started to get nervous that I shouldn't be waiting for that, so I logged on to the Grad PLUS loan application site, but they also say to get instructions from our school because the school might have a direct application set up. So, are most people waiting or moving ahead?

I received an email a few weeks ago at my Mich email. Did you check that?

And yeah, the instructions are kind of Mich specific, oddly enough. There are some steps you have to do before you apply on the PLUS site.

Michigan has their own set of hoops for you to jump through. This is kind of important, if you are unclear about the process a call to financial aid may be in order.

Do you remember how soon you hears whether or not you were approved for the loan after you applied?
