If you are 1/4 Indian and your Tribe/Tribes are federally recognized, then you can go to Michigan FOR FREE

Well Dean Z wrote that I should apply for tuition waiver on my admittance package then I found this:AreJay711 wrote:Dood seriously? Links?s0ph1e2007 wrote:Just found this out. Needed to share

It's accurate. I have heard of it b4 from Mich undergrads, but I thought it was only for UGs and only for in-state Tribes.
Apparently I was wrong!
AreJay are you NDN? Sorry if you already told me and I forgot.

Re: Michigan Class of 2014
Technically. I am 1/4 through my mother's side but not part of the tribe though I am eligible. I have avoided applying strictly for the benefits so far but it looks like that doesn't matter as long as you have enough NA heritage. It says you have to be a Michigan resident but maybe I'll be able to get residency. Thanks for posting that!s0ph1e2007 wrote:Well Dean Z wrote that I should apply for tuition waiver on my admittance package then I found this:AreJay711 wrote:Dood seriously? so worst case scenario you could apply next year
You do need the Tribe to confirm your heritage. You could easily write a letter to your Tribe explaining the situation. Although I highly encourage you to apply for membership to your Tribe. You can decline any per-capita distribution if you choose. I don't know what Tribe you are but...
well you can just PM me if you want.

Let's talk about the Dean's Scholarship. Did anyone just get one? What's the highest you can get this year? Can you defer and expect money when you return in one or two years?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Michigan Class of 2014
So, here's the deal for folks who have the Scholarship Award Letter in the status checker:
Your letter hasn't been set yet, but you will get one. The glitch isn't erroneous as far as the award is concerned - just the sent date. This is per the admissions office. It sounds like the first week of January is when the letters will drop.

Did anyone else get an email from the admissions department today asking if they had received a packet sent a little over a week ago?

here it is
´´A little more than a week ago, we sent you a big packet. We hate to ruin the surprise by telling you what it contained, but let me just say that we never do email follow-ups to make sure people receive bad news. If you haven't received our mailing, please shoot us a quick email and let us know, and also let us know the correct mailing address for you, in case that is the problem.
Now, if you didn’t already have a pretty good guess about the contents of our mailing, we’re about to let the cat out of the bag entirely by drawing your attention to a few bits of information you may find useful:
· Of the significant amount of grant aid Michigan Law provides to incoming students every year, some is awarded by the Admissions Office, while some is awarded through the Financial Aid Office. You will be automatically considered for merit grants by the Admissions Office based on the information provided at the time you applied; we’ll contact you by March if we are able to make you an award, and no application is necessary. Need-based grants, however, are independently awarded through the Financial Aid Office, and those require you to apply and to provide us with information about your financial situation. The Financial Aid Office also handles the loan-application process. Instructions for applying for loans or Financial Aid Office grants are available on our website; you are of course also welcome to contact Financial Aid directly at 734.764.5289, or lawfinaid@umich.edu.
· Michigan Law is strongly committed to supporting our students with physical or learning disabilities. If you think you may be entitled to special disability accommodations, please read these instructions for information about how to apply. It is very helpful if you contact us as early as possible in order to allow us enough time to work closely with you to address any concerns you may have.
· Finally, please be sure to bookmark our website for admitted students. To log in, you’ll need your UMID, which is on your offer letter (as well as other correspondence from us). Among other things, the website has a feature (called Mail & Money) that will allow you to track all the information we mail to you. We hope to hear from you soon with any questions you might have about Michigan Law.
