UT Transfer Chances

Post by muscleboundlaw » Thu Jan 11, 2018 11:57 am

Guys,

I have about a t15% GPA at the moment, and was wondering what my transfer chances would be to UT Law from a tier four in Texas if I don't improve?

Before anyone asks, I regret going here daily ( I got into SMU/ Baylor/ A&M/ Houston, but chose this place due to wanting to be close to my wife).

EDIT: not a complaint about my wife haha. About the school.

It's hard to say because UT only took 18 transfers '16-'17, and most were from 40-60 range schools, other than STCL, which is where most of their transfers come from. My guess is that you would have to improve a bit more to be in.

Just got my ranking- 12.3%.

I assume you mean I should be shooting top 5% at a minimum.

UT Transfer here from a Texas T1/T2, if you maintain your ranking you'll have a pretty good shot at transfering in, I'd say about 60%-70%. Make sure to emphasize any Texas ties you have. Try and crack top 10% if you can.

I'm assuming you mean UH or SMU? Or maybe Baylor? Either way, can you describe your experience transferring to UT? Was there a stigma? Was it considerably more difficult? At your previous university, was it hard to get LOR? Were they upset? Also, why did you leave?

You can definitely infer that he means UH/SMU/Baylor since those are the only T1/2s in Texas.

Your other questions are much more general and you probably shouldn't worry about (other than reasons for transferring which are personal and dependent on one's career goals or wanting to be in a particular location). You shouldn't have a problem getting a LOR, just go to office hours a lot and unless they're spiteful a prof would be happy to help you to better your career opportunities (realize they probably went to a better school themselves, so it's not like they don't understand).
