How did your grades compare 2L year after transfer?

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Aug 26, 2017 6:48 pm

About to start 2L year at my new T14 school (transferred from a school ranked ~60). From transfers who have already completed their 2L year, or more, how did your grades change -- did you find it pretty easy to get good grades? Or did anyone make a big jump in either direction?

Not me, but someone I am extremely close with. TTT to t13 transfer. Went from top 4-5% to median, and struggled to get median.

1L GPA at T40 was 3.56; final GPA at T6 was 3.56.

For real. I think there was a .004 difference or something. I didn't really change my study habits, either.

FWIW, a lot of T14s have obscene grade inflation, and as a 2L/3L you can take classes with more favorable (or no) curves. So, I kind of consider my GPA to have gone down, even though numerically it was the same, considering I took so many seminars, clinics, etc. Got median slammed in my lecture courses like evidence, crim pro, PR.

If you're careful about your course selection, you can counter-balance your substantive courses with guaranteed A courses, of which there are plenty in the t-14. You're in law school to get the degree and you may as well get a great GPA while you're there, nothing to prove.

Pretty much stayed the same. Once you learn how to play the law school exam game, your skill will transfer with you, imo.

I think there was a thread on this a while back.

I took a predictable drop. Was top 1% after 1L at TTT, and my 2L/3L finished around top 33% at T6.

Stayed the same for me; my opinion on this is that there are 2 types of people with good grades: (1) the people who actually study really hard, learn the material, etc. (2) the people who understand how law school exams work and basically "game" them.

Transfers in group 2 do well regardless while transfers in group 1 take a drop. Just my completely-anecdoatal opinion./

#1 in my class at a ~30 ranked school 1L. Graduated just shy of top 10% at a YSH. It was harder to get good grades at my new school, but that was to be expected. Still, whatever worked for you (to allow for a transfer) will work at your new school too.

I was top 5% at T1 and top ~30% at CCN.
