Hi all,
I'm a current Santa Clara student with a 4.1 GPA. I'm interested in transferring to Boalt, but this seems like a strong uphill battle.
I'd appreciate any advice or pointers from those who have been in a similar situation. What should I be focusing on? Is there anything that can enhance my application? Do factors that mattered in my initial application matter now such as URM status?
Thanks in advance!

A 4.1 must put you near or at the top of your class, no? If you can maintain anything near that throughout the year, you should be a lock at Boalt. I'd definitely recommend that you put in an app at Stanford too - it's no guarantee (their admissions for transfers is just as blackbox as for incoming 1Ls) but you've definitely got a shot.

Thanks so much for the input! The GPA is only based on 2 classes and should put me near the top of the class, so fingers crossed I can maintain it

Focus on keeping your grades high. A 4.1 should be a lock at Boalt, and I would think that would give you a good chance at SLS as well. I can attest to the fact that SLS takes the top couple kids at UCH (my alma mater) every year, and I'd imagine the same is true of Santa Clara.
That said, you should also be a lock for Biglaw from SCU with that GPA. So I think some of this is going to come down to how comfortable you are with taking on a bunch of debt as a transfer vs. using transfer apps to leverage a full ride out of SCU.

A 4.1 should keep you pretty competitive for Boalt, how is it you only have 2 classes graded? It is early and you should ignore the idea of transferring until you finish your second semester.
