Letter of Recommendation question

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Mar 25, 2016 11:16 pm

I'm a 1L planning on applying to Chicago ED when the app opens in mid-April.

The app requires two letters of recommendation, and I already have secured one letter from a well-known professor at my school with whom I have a great relationship.

My problem is I am not sure what to do about the second letter. The doctrinal I did the best in last semester was taught by a professor who is also a vice dean, so I am hesitant to ask him. I also did well in Legal Writing, but my teacher has been at the school for ~20 years, has openly spoken out against transferring, and generally doesn't like people who don't worship the school. I didn't do well enough in my other doctrinal or form a strong enough relationship to get a rec.

Should I ask undergrad professors or is this not a thing? I have a professor from undergrad who has written me great letters in the past.

I also have a couple years of work experience, so I could ask my previous employer if need be.

Basically what I'm asking is if I NEED two recs from law school professors or if an undergrad professor/employer will suffice as the second.

Thanks

I'd say the second letter can come from anyone who seems appropriate and will write a good letter. I doubt the LOR will make or break you. Just make sure to have one. And it can't hurt if it's a good one.
