Let me this straight:

You are top 65%, meaning that you are at the 35% percentile of your class. With that class rank at let's say Baylor (random 50-70), you were accepted into Vanderbilt, UT, UCLA, or the likes. I don't believe it, but let's go with it. What is your scholarship situation at current school??

I was a few seconds too late to see your response. That's killer that you got into UCLA. You will be paying full freight I assume. Do you have contacts in LA? What are your goals? What markets do you want to pinpoint?

My goal is big law. I have two federal internships with judges. I don't really have contacts besides Cornell Alumni (went to Cornell for undergrad).

First of all, congrats. Second of all -- Top 65% -- am I reading that right? As in, ~64% of your class is above you? Do you maybe mean 65th percentile?

Either way, congrats.

I mean if you're biglaw or bust, yeah you're not gonna get that where you're at now, but you probably won't get it if you transfer either.

I'm not sure transferring to UCLA, Vandy, etc. is going to get you big law. You might just end up in more debt.

Also you should check whether these schools have lottery or pre-select OCIs. WUSTL for instance is 100% pre-select and it seems like that totally keeps transfers out of the running. If you're going to make the jump you're going to want to at least get lottery interviews, even if your chances in general at landing biglaw are still slim.

Is there any go-to resource to figure that out, or do you just have to ask?

UCLA is 30% pre-select and 70% lottery

I mean, look at the school's website, and if you can't find it contact the school.

UT is the opposite. 70% pre-select and 30% lottery (might be 67/33, but you get the point).

I think I read on here somewhere that all the T14s are lottery with one or two that also have some pre-select slots in addition.

I think GULC is part pre-select iirc but too lazy to look up.
