Just to make sure you're setting your expectations -- if you apply and are admitted to H, it is possible (likely?) that you will not receive aid information from H until after you need to make a decision. This came up with the Florida person referenced earlier (actually from UF, not FSU). You might find that thread to be useful, or at least entertaining.

God damn, that's a tough call OP.

If your gf is comfortable uprooting, and you have aspirations outside of big-law that are unicorny - such as big-fed, feeder clerkships etc, then it might make sense to transfer to HYS or even CCN. If I were you, I'd apply to the top schools you and your partner would be comfortable moving to, and then evaluate when/if you get in.

However, with your current goals, and your position as top 5% minimum at your local school - I'm assuming your local school feeds at least semi strongly into the market - then I'm not sure it actually does make sense. Top 5% should get you big-law and clerkships if you truly want them, and you wouldn't have to take on a ton of additional, and unnecessary debt.

It really only makes sense if these conditions are met (at least for me):
1) Your S.O is fine with it
2) You want something that your current school can't give you, or makes it very hard to get
3) You really want that prestige on your resume
4) You're okay with the extra 100+k of debt, knowing full well that incurring this debt means you pretty much have to work big-law for 3 years or so to pay it of

GL.
