Yeah, I think I'm going to list both percentiles to give a more definite indication that I'm closer to 3% than 10%. Anyone have any insight as to whether my schools policy on refusal to give more definite percentile after first semester is normal/whether it will negatively effect my early action applications?

FWIW, giving the 3% line is more than a lot of T1 schools I know (some of which only give you 10/25/33/50 and some which only give you 50).

Interesting. That makes me think it may be better to give just Top 10% and leave the rest up to assumption.

There's no reason not to other than to make it harder for students to transfer out. Which is why I believe they do it.

Any other advice on whether I should include the Top 3% and Top 10% figures, or just the Top 10%? Sorry to harp on this, I just see the merits of both.

Do whatever you want and think best pinpoints your position. Its just to give a relative indication of where you sit in the class. Since its for transfer reasons, I wouldn't worry that it looks laborious on your resume. Your goal is to get in. However, usually schools will require something from your registrar requiring an approximate rank/position in the class. Sooo, that will also help fix your position.

I attempted to get a more exact figure from my school to no avail. BUT our career development office said, based off the numbers they have, Top 5% is a "conservative estimate" and Top 4% is more than likely my percentile. Is it kosher to put Top 5% even though it's not officially published to the students?

i would do this. it conveys your point. while it seems ponderous, you are trying to get the school to accept you. however, i wouldn't transfer to these schools given your rank.

I think this is what I'm going to do.

You definitely think it's better to give the Top 10% and 3% numbers, rather than just Top 10% and allowing them to estimate based from there? I guess since my GPA is so close to a 4.0 the 3% figure would give the strong presumption I fall in Top 5%.

The "Class Rank: Unknown" is unnecessary, and to me comes off a little, well I'll stick with unnecessary to be polite. The firms have plenty of applicants from schools that don't do specific number ranks (at least not prior to graduation), so they'll know what you mean by listing the percentages.

Agreed. Those are MVPB numbers, and close to CCN numbers. Transferring to USC/UCLA/GW/GULC seems insane with stats like OP's.
