Top Law Schools

I received an A+, A+, A and A- from a school ranked in the 40-50 range. I have a 3.906 on a 4.0 scale with the median being around a 3.2/3.3. I believe one of my A+ was the top score in the class if that matters at all. We do not have ranks yet but I believe I am in the top 5% of the class.

I was wondering what my chances are at Georgetown Early Action and Chicago ED with these grades?

I was also wondering what kind of grades I would need at the end of the semester to get into a CCN or Michigan/Penn? I have three classes next semester and a graded LRW which I have been doing well in so I have put myself in a great position for next semester.

Georgetown is a waste of an application. I wouldn't Chicago ED b/c you are competitive for H/S (maybe Yale if you can be number 1).

I wouldn't bother applying to Georgetown unless you just want to use it for scholarship negotiations, but I'd send applications to the rest of the T14. Yale is very likely a pipe dream and I'm not as confident as stillwater seems to be about your odds at Harvard or Stanford, but you have a shot at CCNMVPB.

im not confident. my point is depending on school and precise position in class he has a shot. they are markedly better than UChi and would be a shame to lose that shot.

Congrats on the performance and I'm sure you will do well again this semester. Just out of curiousity, how does your school have a+'s on a 4.0 scale? I thought that would entail a 4.3 scale which is what my school does. Anyways, congrats and just keep focus.

How competitive am I for the Chicago ED? Does ED provide a boost to a candidate's chances?

Also where would I need to finish at the end of the year to be a competitive applicant for NYU, Columbia and Michigan?

I think the A+ is just to signify top grade and to indicate good quality work, nothing more than that I believe.

no one can answer your question. sure you have a chance. but its a bit black box. just do well next semester and apply ED if you must. you wont know if it works out until it does.

Based on what he said his GPA was, the A+ appears to just be a 4.0 (because 2 A+'s vs. 1 A- would have raised him above a 4.0). My guess is that the A+ is barely any harder to get than an A (but still very hard), because they don't impact the 3.3 curve anymore than an A would.

You'd prob get into Chicago ED, but even with a slight drop would prob get in RD. The drop off from HYS is too vast for ED to be worth it unless you're sure you want to work in Chicago (and even then if you're from Chicago) it's not worth it.

Well, that depends on the relative hours for each course. Though I've not done the math on the hour distribution to see how to get to 3.906. Could also be that A+ is not a full .3 or .33 above A.

I got into Michigan from a T50 and was in the top 10%. I know several others at various law schools in CA who transferred to other top tiers. Shoot me a PM and I'll answer any specific questions you have. By the way, congratulations!
