Harvard Waiting Thread 2013

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Apr 18, 2013 10:03 am

Harvard put up their transfer application a couple of days ago, so let's get this show on the road.

My stats: Lower T2, #1 in class. It's a long shot, but I think it's worth it to at least apply.

Also, I noticed Harvard has their own Dean's certification that needs to be filled out by your current school and UG. Just something to be aware of, not sure if other schools do it this way.

Also checking in. My Stats: School ranked in the 50s, 4.0 first semester GPA

OP - are you going to submit your application before finals, or are you waiting to submit everything all at once? Do you think it makes a difference considering they can't make decisions until second semester grades are out?

Planning to submit after finals, but before grades come back. That way they can see my rank from this semester. Only can stay the same or drop second semester, so might as well put my best foot forward at first. No idea if it makes any difference.

Also submitting before second semester grades. Gonna get most of the paperwork over with so I only have to worry bout the grades.

Edit* Why is the OP on an anonymous account? Seems kinda silly...

Will be applying post-exams. 3.86 last semester, solidly w/i top 10% but school doesn't rank beyond that-likely would be somewhere around 5-7%. T1 25-50

Applying after exams. Currently top 3% in 40-50s. Hopefully this semester's grades will bump my ranking up a little more.

Me. My current law school write-on is the exact same week though... so... should be interesting doing both at the same time.

Few questions re: college certifications

Does it matter when my current school/undergrad sends this information to harvard? Can it be sent in before I have submitted the transfer application form?

Wait, you mean you have the HARVARD write-on packet already? Or the one at your school? If the former, where can I get a copy?

Fun story way too hilarious not to share with my fellow transfer hopefuls.

So it turns out Harvard runs an antiquated law review application system, and you actually need physical packets to participate. The deadline for mailing in a fed-ex envelope to receive the package was apparently May 10th. I found this out an hour after I finished my last exam. I am now sitting in a Mcdonalds in Times Square waiting for an early morning greyhound to Boston, so I can pick up the packet in person when the window opens at 1pm.

1. I clearly did not do my research properly.
2. Harvard really needs to embrace the wonders of computer technology.

*facepalm*

hahah you still probably got an earlier start than I did. Apparently, they give FedEx special instructions requiring you to personally sign for the packet. I wasn't at my place this morning, so I missed the FedEx guy and had to go to FedEx, wait for the driver to finish his entire daily route, and pick up the packet. Plus, it doesn't help that the packet is thicker than my con law book

Ya. I was going to write my current schools write-on at the same time; I don't think that's going to happen. I'm currently staying with a friend at HLS, with 1500 pages worth of write-on material stacked in bunches on the desk in front of me. Its disgusting the hoops we have to jump to fight over 20 spots open to everyone else, for which we get no notice, and for which they give practically no information on the website.

Hopefully at least one of us get it, to carry the transfer flag into the HLR? XD

Regarding the written work description, what have people been putting there? Do LRW things count to this, or is it for people who have been published prior to law school?

LOR's/grades/Dean letter not ready - should I submit the application form and then update application, or wait until all of my materials are ready

That writeon was insane. My friends had these tiny 132 page packets and I had this 2000 page monstrosity. and they coincided on the same week so i couldn't double up. =(

The written work description I think is just for people who've published/written theses. These are MAJOR writing projects.

LSAC won't allow you to submit the application without current transcripts and LORs, if the school requires them. I'm still waiting for grades too.

No idea, but you can probably find the answer in last year's thread.
