Congrats to all of those admitted... I know the last day to start the write-on is Wednesday... anyone not doing it and banking on an acceptance from another school? I cannot get off of work, so if I did it, it would have to be in the evenings and weekends. I am at a school in the 60s, top 6%, 3.92... considering rolling the dice and not doing it and hoping I get in somewhere else. Anyone else in this situation?

Considering they have already given out many acceptances, you are likely wait listed. Any news from anyone ?? How long did you guys wait to send in a LOCI ?

Hello folks I have a question.

I got the acceptance email today. My stat: T2(70-90) at Midwest, 13-15%, 3.64, non-US citizen (int'l). Considering that I am outside of the top 10%, I feel kind of lucky that I got admission from GULC. However, the problem is that GULC is asking me to notify whether I intend to enroll and pay a deposit by July 19 (which is about six days from now). But I am still waiting for results from other low-T14 schools including my dream school, Michigan)

So far, I got acceptance from Emory and paid a non-binding deposit of $800 (This is an insurance for me). The problem for Emory is that their OCI is early August in which I cannot participate since I am coming to the states in the mid August.

My goal is biglaw (which I have no choice since I am a non-US citizen so I am looking for a big firm that could provide a visa sponsorship). Should I pay GULC's deposit and forget about other T14s? Or should I take risks and wait for better schools?

Any (unbiased) opinions will be greatly appreciated. (I am kinda expecting that ppl in this post likely to tell me to leave GULC since it will open a slot for them lol)

I already withdrew from GULC, so I'm probably unbiased. First, don't do anything until the 19th. Most schools have most of their decisions out by then, so it's really quite likely that this'll be moot by the time your deposit deadline comes. Some schools will also try to let you know sooner rather than later if you've got a deadline coming up - I'd send out an email to Michigan on Wednesday expressing that they are your dream school and you'd really love to attend, but that you have been accepted to Georgetown and they want 1k from you by the 19th. Just use your common sense - it's not like Georgetown is gonna take away your acceptance before the deadline.

ETA: Since EIW bidding deadline is the 17th, maybe move all of those dates up two days if you have to make your deposit before making EIW bids.

That said, your stats aren't the best, and it sounds like you really need to be at a T14. Even if you can't make a big enough US firm for visa sponsorship, going to a school like Georgetown that has international prestige will mean a lot more if you have to go back to your home country and get a job there for a little while because of visa problems. If you can't get an answer from Michigan before the GULC deadline, drop the 1k and don't look back.

If I were you I would pay the GULC deposit and not demand an early answer from Michigan, potentially ruining all chances there. Take the best school you can get into. Considering the amount of money transferring usually ends up costing with apps, moving, ect the deposit isn't that much. I would not bank on visa sponsorship from a BigLaw firm. I know several T14 grads at the top of their class from better schools than Georgetown who did not get the option of working at a BigLaw firm.

I called a couple of offices this cycle to ask about decision timelines, and they all advised that they might be able to expedite the process if they were aware of a competing offer (no guarantees). I know for sure some people got their offers in response to this type of email last year, so it's not a futile exercise. Obviously, if you sent a letter rudely demanding a decision, that would hurt your chances, but so would writing a personal statement about how you're entitled to education at HYS as a birthright. If Int'l Student OP is worried about it hurting, (s)he could always inquire by phone about whether it's an option (and maintain anonymity). Heck, OP, if you're worried and can't call because of time differences, feel free to PM me and I would be happy to do it for you.

I thank you for answering my first question. I have another question to ask. I have received my account/password for the admitted student website. However, I cannot find my netID on that website. Is it that they provide me a netID only if I pay a deposit?

Thank you for your offer, but I've already sent an email to Michigan to explain my situation and ask them whether they can give me an expedited decision. Interestingly, all the professors who wrote LORs for me recommended me to do the same. Thank you!

- I wonder if it is really a space issue, or if they are just waiting to see if they receive more transfer applications before moving to the WL?

So to be clear, even if we did get in, we can't do the full OCI? We would only get lottery interviews? Is this correct? I'm in at Texas and Northwestern and waiting on NYU and Columbia. Making sure Georgetown won't work before I withdraw my app.

yeah, i dunno how that will pan out... i just want to get a job and i dont know how a GULC acceptance later in august would affect my current school OCI (assuming i get interviews) i just dont want to get interviews at current school and have to withdraw in order to get into GULC w/ potentially not being able to participate in OCI or interview with firms etc...

No full OCI experience at GULC this late in the game.
