Georgetown Transfer Waiting Thread 2013

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Feb 26, 2013 4:47 pm

Well, apps in... time to wait. I recommend taking a screenshot of the status checker so you can compare it to changes later on...

Time to focus on crushing this semester. Good luck y'all!

Good luck! How long after you submitted the app did it take to get Status Checker login credentials? Couple hours? Couple days?

Need some honest opinions from people who know the transfer game better than I do. Applied EA to GULC, 3.7 / top 7% at a T2. What are the odds I will be admitted / deferred EA? Also, if deferred and I keep these grades up, what are my odds at regular decision?

Don't want to get my hopes up if I'm a definite deferral. If I got into GULC I would almost definitely go. Just have no idea where I stand, so any wisdom is appreciated. Good luck to all applying, and thanks!

From what I gather, you have a realistic chance... Xferring is a black box though...so if I were you, I'd send an LOCI now... Get detailed on why you want to be there

Do people actually send LOCIs for transfer apps?

Did other people's status date get updated yesterday? After I went complete a few weeks ago, I wasn't expecting it to change until late April.

Yeah! wow...Application Completed 3/28 ... I'm not sure when they begin reviewing, but IIRC decisions may be sent before the end of April

Looking at the thread from last year, it doesn't look like anyone had a date change until decisions were made around 4/20. Wonder if they are doing things much earlier this year, or if it's just some routine update.

I changed yesterday (3/27). Went complete 3/13.

Other change noticed: my address in the status checker was changed to spell out everything (apt is changed to apartment).

Could very well be nothing. In the 0L thread it looks like it is a good sign if 'USA' is added to the address. I don't have that though.

Do you all think the relative silence on this thread indicates a smaller EA transfer pool this year?

I hope that is indicative of the applicant size. I am not ranked even close enough for EA admittance but I thought I would try because application numbers were down this year.

Seems like you should have a better shot this cycle than any other at least. Hard to tell whether most just aren't talking, but the yahoo group and TLS have both been pretty quiet overall and certainly for GULC.

Did you get a status date change yesterday?

Huh. I wonder if they really are getting ready to issue decisions on Monday. A few years ago it seemed to always come the Monday after Easter. Then the past two years they didn't come until late April. But if this completely unsubstantiated speculation that EA apps are down this year is true, maybe it is actually coming next week.

To add to the unsubstantiated speculation and in the interest of trying to rationalize some hope for admission...

Since first year applications are down, maybe they want to gauge how many transfers/money they can bring in before they start dishing out more money to 0Ls in interest of keeping their medians.

150 transfers at 50k a yr = 7.5mil..

Makes sense to me. Since transfers don't have their stats reported, seems GULC should be more willing to relax transfer cutoffs than 0L cutoffs.

Yeah... To add to the mix; Historically, GW makes decisions next week, they (GULC) could be cutting into that mix now, trying to get more seat deposit money, or there could be less applicants overall... A side note, my friend top 1-2% at large well known T2 got EA last year ... They gave him need based aid, so it was actually cheaper for him to transfer

Went complete 3/27.

I also hope this applicant pool is small. Anyone know how many spaces are available, based on the size of the 1L class?

Also, wrote the LOCI... email or snail mail? If decisions are out soon, I'd rather just email, but I didn't know if they would even bother with it at this point if it wasn't a hard copy.

Good luck, everyone!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
