24 Hours to Make a Decision
Hello all!
So my current school (T25) has made my offer for Law Review contingent on withdrawing my transfer applications. They have given me 24 hours to decide. I have only a small scholarship, and am T15% of my class. I am looking at more West Coast markets post graduation than East Coast. Thoughts and considerations?

Wow tight spot to be in. Nu is going to do a better job placing you out west. IMHO, because scholly isn't that huge, Nu.

Easy decision IMHO. Top 15% with law review at W&L probably won't get you what you are looking for, NU will give you much more access to firms via OCI. Kind of a dick move for your school to give you 24 hours to decide, although now any warm and fuzzy feelings you may have for W&L can safely be set aside.

I don't know too much about the success of Northwestern transfers, but I can't imagine that a W&L degree would very easily get you out west. Northwestern could, especially if you have ties. With a small scholarship, I think you should go Northwestern without sweating too much. Get in on that T-14 OCI- times are way better than they were a few years ago, and I'd bet you'd have a great chance at biglaw.hd1487 wrote:Hello all!

I voted NU - I think the 2 votes for W&L were from members of your law review

Go to NU and don't look back. The name will carry much farther out west.

Friend of mine is top 10% in law review at that school and says the job market still sucks for him. I'd get the fuck out of there.

Northwestern is an employment powerhouse recognized nationwide. Wash & Lee is a regional law school with respect to placement. Although it's tough to forego law review & a top 15% ranking, graduating from Northwestern Law School is probably better than top five (5%) percent from W&L if seeking placement in the West.

I don't understand how they even know you have pending transfer applications. Just because you had them fill out a dean's cert doesn't mean you actually applied anywhere.

Might be a standard stip for W&L LR offers?TatteredDignity wrote:I don't understand how they even know you have pending transfer applications. Just because you had them fill out a dean's cert doesn't mean you actually applied anywhere.

Eh, they might just make all LRev offers conditional on withdrawing "any pending transfer applications".TatteredDignity wrote:I don't understand how they even know you have pending transfer applications. Just because you had them fill out a dean's cert doesn't mean you actually applied anywhere.
I can't say that I really blame the journal. Boards need to get things settled ASAP so that they can start making assignments. Still, transfer and don't look back.

Thanks everyone for your insight!
Yes, I believe it is standard for their LR. Its also a very small school word gets around.

Re: 24 Hours to Make a Decision
lucky you. NU will def get you farther than W&L. I think in the long-run the money wouldn't mean much. NU degree will be enough to make up for the difference in tuition $$.
again congrats.
