You should shoot higher, and I am not sure that it is realistic to pursue a career in entertainment law and transfer schools for this reason. Region.. that may be a more plausible reason. But it is not worth to give up a 1/2 scholarship for this...

would have said yes, you should transfer, but after reading you have a scholarship for half the tuition, i have to say i don't think it's worth it...

congrats LawGuy.

i generally agree with the sentiment above, but i would say that if it really is that worth it to you to be in LA and market yourself in the legal market there, then transferring is certainly something to consider (which you already have, obviously). its going to be very tough for you to make a case for entertainment law coming from BC/Fordham. of course, going into further debt and giving up a significant amount of money at your current school is tough, but really it just comes down to how much you want to eventually practice in LA. if the answer is "absolutely want to be in LA," then i think you should make the trip out west.

by the way, when did your app go complete? did you get an email regarding the complete status or did you submit and then get a call much like reasonable troll?

Thanks for the advice. For me, I am not willing to practice outside of California and spend additional time away from my family after law school. I went to BC/Fordham because of the scholarship and did not even get into UCLA during my initial applications. The way I see it, getting the scholarship money for a year and now transferring is not too bad of a financial decision. (I should also add that after moving, I discovered that I absolutely can't stand living on the east coast!) The boost from going to the best school in the market I want to practice in, which has a program geared towards the industry I want to practice in, is worth an additional $40k in debt.

Also, I never received any status checker of any kind. I simply got an e-mail saying that they would let me know when my application was complete, then a few days later received the call that I was admitted. I received the e-mail today.

Can someone tell me how 'bad' of a financial situation one needs to be in to qualify for need-based aid? What if I have been working for a few years and have money saved up and my spouse works?

depends somewhat on your age. if you are under 30, ucla takes into account your parents' assets, whether or not they are going to help you out. numerical cutoffs are something of a black box, it seems. i was told by admissions that their need-based grants range between 1k and 20k, but no info on what level of income corresponds to what grant value.

in any case, if you get in and submit your fafsa and the need access paperwork they can get back to you with an offer in a day or less.

Doesn't look like there's been much activity since Tuesday (when LawGuy from BC/Fordham received a call).

Perhaps the rush of applications towards the end is slowing down the process now (I believe UCLA receives close to 300-350). Nevertheless, not as optimistic as I was before.

What was the deadline for the deposit for those of you who have been admitted, by the way?

Was asked to do an interview. Respectfully withdrew my application instead. Best of luck to everyone left!

It seems like they are tightening up their admissions this year. Previous years my stats have been admitted.

Not for everyone. Only if something gives them pause I believe.

I would suppose that they're close to admitting, otherwise they wouldn't expend that kind of energy, right? Plus, seems like a couple of people who were interviewed were accepted shortly after. Were you offered an interview? If so, good luck!

Does anyone know if for UCLA's OCI you have to upload cover letters for the employers, or is it just resume+bid?

I think it is just bid. I could not find anywhere to put cover letters.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
