top 30 to t-14

Post by applejack » Mon Apr 02, 2012 7:44 pm

I'm at a top 30 school with a 3.67 from first semester. Assuming I can keep that GPA this semester, what are my chances at Cornell, UVa, or NYU? Applied to all straight out, rejected at NYU, waitlisted at Cornell and UVa.

Cmon OP, you have to know that objective GPA figure means very little since every school curves differently. All that matters is your class rank.

If you are currently at BC & want to practice in Boston, then there is no need to transfer if you are among the top 10% at BC law, in my opinion.

If you're currently at Notre Dame & want to practice in Boston, then transferring may make sense although it depends upon how much scholarship money you'll be leaving if you transfer.

Transferring T30 --> Cornell might actually hurt your job prospects. I wouldn't look at anything below T6.

Actually BU (got money at the last minute), where I'm top 10% (barely, I think- rank's not exact, but its the best I've got).

You're within the competitive range for NYU and CLS. If you stay top 10% second semester, you'll probably get at least one. I don't think it's worth applying to anything lower. Also, if you have a decent scholarship and you want Boston biglaw, transferring doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
