Penn Transfer Class of 2013

Post by Wholigan » Fri Jul 15, 2011 8:27 pm

So, my deposit is in. Who else? Seems like almost everyone else in the main transfer thread who got into Penn withdrew or said they will. There must be a few lurkers who will be there. Who is doing this 20 hour editing competition?

Cool, well enjoy the visit. Did you arrange to tour the school over the weekend?

Oh yeah, I saw that brochure in the admissions package. You going to be able to visit Columbia too while you're at it?

Hope you make the cut! I have counted like 2 people besides me on here who are likely to go to Penn, so there should be more spots open, unless 90% of the transfers aren't on TLS.

Already visited columbia! It was pretty great (there were parts that were a lot nicer than my current law school and parts that were worse).

Accepted this morning via email. Will probably go with Penn over NU and UCLA. No word from CLS, NYU and other long shots (as if Penn wasn't) for me...

Congrats huskylaw! I think there's a chance we're at the same law school... still haven't heard from Penn. Sitting at 7/11 UR.
I'm assuming you guys go to UConn. Out of curiosity do you mind PM me which professors seem to be receptive about writing recs. Seems like the 1L profs are usually the same every year.

May I ask what pushed you towards Penn over CLS?

*Not a transfer, an 0L going to Penn next year. but i chose penn over CLS because it seemed like a friendlier atmosphere more conducive to getting an education. the people were awesome when i visited a few months ago. and i know people say law students are miserable but the students at upenn seemed genuinely happy and excited to be there. Whereas at Columbia I had two current students tell me not to come. huge turn off. congrats to everyone who has that option and i look forward to seeing everyone who chooses penn next year!!

Wasnt sure if you were asking me. That said if you were, here's my answer. Though I have some desire to do academia and Columbia wouldve been better for that, I found that the facilities at Penn were more impressive (I visited both), the money I would save not living in NYC, and the fact I have pretty extensive Philly connections to be persuasive.

Have you guys checked Symplicity today? I assume you all got the email that the algorithm is not finished running and the lists are incomplete, but I got 10 of my top 11 bids so far, with bids 12 & down not showing yet. Needless to say, I'm fairly happy so far, although I'd love to finish with some more interviews. How did everyone else do?

I called CPP in a panic right before that e-mail was sent out, because I was wondering why Symplicity was back up but I only had 3 interviews  And then they explained that the process was still running and that I probably shouldn't even look at the schedule until its done.

Nevertheless, I'm at 14 right now (1-17 minus 12, 14, and 16). Idk if y'all have spoken with your Morris Fellow yet, but mine told me that once the final schedules are out we'll be able to post for trades - I think somewhere on the goat website, but I'm not sure (e.g. "I'll trade you my Cravath for your Davis Polk."). It sounds like Pokémon cards! Who's got a Charizard?

eta: Aaaand the interviews vanished. I guess this is what Beth McManus meant by "please note that if you are seeing scheduled interviews now, these are by no means final as the system is still running."

Very pleased - I see in the Penn OCI thread several returning students got 30+ interviews.

I fell a little short of that, but I'm very happy.
