I believe that those who have already had letters sent are out at SLS. Those remaining UR haven't been rejected yet because Stanford is waiting to see how many will drop out of their class. The only shot left is probably 1) Your accepted school/ soft clone ahead of you drops out to Y or H and you get off the WL, or 2) Your app was late, hasn't been reviewed yet, and has some amazing soft that blackbox Stanford can't resist.

Also, to answer the difference in mass mails (coming from Columbia or Chicago), I have been told a couple times by biglaw hiring partners and recruiters that YHSCC (and NYU only in New York) pull similar weight in massmails. To hiring folks at Biglaw, they would prefer to have at least one from each of these schools in their classes. You may even be better off being one of the few from Columbia who massmailed a firm that would be at the OCIs of the other four, but not yours, because you present a unique opportunity for the firm to get a Columbia grad in their class.

First paragraph points based on how Harvard runs their waitlist (I have several friends who got off the waitlist there, and speculation that Stanford would bend at any step of the process for an amazing-soft applicant based upon how their acceptances have gone in the past.

Second paragraph is true and based on discussion with biglaw hiring people.

Fingers crossed for the last round of Columbia acceptances today. Complete since Wednesday so it can't be much longer

Agreed. They have had ample time (it would seem) to make their selections, so please god let us hope the misery will end today!

Let's hope that harvard gets back to the lonely few still waiting now that supposedly all initial admits have responded

+1. I want to be able to move forward 100% with Michigan and start my mailing, and I just can't do that until the locals officially reject me.

Exact same situation. And that's why I wont be upset if Columbia dings me. With my deposit already down at NYU, im happy either way. I just want the final closure. And honestly, after visiting NYU last weekend and really loving the area and facilities, im not so sure I would up and switch to Columbia so easily, especially since I never intend on leaving the mid Atlantic, where NYU is essentially a peer to Ccolumbia

Honestly, if I had either CLS/NYU, I would take it and withdraw from the other one. Both have their pros and cons. But that's me and chances are, I don't get either .

You are sort of omitting the context dude. I specified that this would only be the case in the Mid-Atlantic, i.e. in the NYC area. I totally agree that, once you leave this area, Columbia's name hands down carries more weight. But after speaking to enough hiring partners in NYC, it seems like the overarching consensus is that the schools are viewed as peers, from the perspective of a number of large firms. Again, leave NYC, and this isn't the case, but luckily for me, I don't plan on leaving this area.

Check your quotes. I didn't call them peer schools (though I would agree with kaiser's statement that they are in NYC).

I've also heard through the grapevine (and last year's OCI thread) that the QOL for transfer students is higher at NYU than CLS. Remember, this section of the forum isn't looking at which schools are best for 0L's -- it's which schools are best for those of us looking to transfer into the T14, etc.

Yeah reading about how Columbia students were formally complaining to the school about the size of the transfer class sort of turned me off, though their concerns are certainly warranted. And I'd imagine any top school that takes in a large transfer class would feel the same way about the noobies coming in and taking their jerbz :)

Have you gotten access to the Admitted Students site yet? I mailed in my deposit, but really want to get going on requesting housing and such.

No info yet. I'm all set with housing in Jersey City (less than a 15 min PATH train takes you within 5 minutes of NYU, so I'm surprised more people don't live there, given that it costs less than 1/2 of what NYU charges). I'm more concerned about the OCI info, which I would really like to get going with, but can't until they have that webinar the career services person said would be upcoming, although they haven't given me a date.

It was in the CLS OCI thread last year.

As Keg mentioned, it was in one of their threads from last year. A CLS rising 2L at the time was speaking about how current students petitioned to the school to ensure that the transfer class be kept small as to give the continuing students a better shot at OCI without having even more competition. The school refused to comply with the student requests, and admitted in just as big a transfer class as usual, claiming that the transfers would make the class more robust and well-founded, etc. Needless to say, the students weren't terribly happy that their petition was ignored.

Meh. NYU's class is the same size. Of course you would be pissed at transfers if you are outside the top 50% of your class. But I don't hang out with stupid people, so this alleged QOL differential should not affect me.

That was my thought. It would be the same anywhere with regard to median students being mad at transfers for taking up jobs at OCI. Columbia just happened to make a big deal out of it, but I can't imagine its any different at other schools.
