Transfer Advice

I was hoping to get some advice about whether or not to transfer.

I'm a 1L at St. John's with full tuition. My GPA after last semester is 3.71 (top 8%). The school just dropped 20 spots in the rankings (largely because of job placement), and is, supposedly, expected to drop more next year. Does it make sense to give up my full ride and transfer?

If so, what are my odds of getting into the lower top 14? I would really love to attend GULC, don't know how much of a long shot that is.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on your career aspirations. Do you have anything lined up for this summer?

If it were me, I'd gtfo. But also if it were me, I wouldn't have gone in the first place. Your chances of T14 are probably slim at that rank, but there might be other options available, depending on where you want to work, etc.

i would transfer. Basically you got a 1/3 scholarship at whatever school you transfer in to.
I say you have a small chance of getting accepted at a t14. I would apply to every school in the bottom t14 + ucla/usc/vandy/texas + a couple of schools in the gw/emory/bc/bu/wustl range.

I'm not sure what my career goals are yet, I just really want to leave my options open. This summer I am interning in a DA's office.

I would like going to Fordham but from what I understand they don't let transfer take part in OCI, or at least the early part of it.

I'd ultimately prefer to work in the NY area, but this is not necessarily a must.

Solid range of transfer suggestions, just realize that most peoples' chances of acceptance at UT are asymptotically approaching zero for a variety of reasons.

Don't transfer to Fordham unless you're willing to kiss biglaw OCI goodbye. As for staying in the New York area, I'd stick with St. John's. Your other realistic options are lateral moves at best in terms of quality, and you'd be giving up a helluva lot (scholarship, top 10%, professor connections, LR, etc.) for equally terrible job prospects. If anyone's going to get a job in NYC from those schools, it's going to be someone in your position at your school.

TL;DR: if you want biglaw, grab a map, throw some darts and start applying to transfer in the 10-30 range and get ready to bust your ass with write-on LR competitions and starting over with a 0.00 GPA this fall.

GULC is definitely the right T14 to try to transfer to. They are supposedly more transfer friendly than any other school of similar rank. From a lower T2 at 8%, your not a lock, but you definitely have a solid chance.
