GMU to GULC worth it?

Hello everyone,

This is my first time actually posting but I've found myself in a dilemma. I just applied to GULC early admission from George Mason (#41ish). I am in the top 5% of the 1L class. I guess I had two questions:

1. are my chances decent for getting selected under EA?

2. More importantly, would it be worth transferring to Georgetown if I was able to maintain my grades at Mason?

Cost won't really be an issue because Mason is raising tuition again to be comparable to Georgetown. I guess I'm just wondering if the opportunities would be better moving up to GULC rather than staying at the top of Mason (assuming I don't get knocked off the ladder this semester). I came to Mason thinking I would nail DC jobs but they primarily only place people throughout Northern Virginia it seems so that is a concern for me going forward.

If you want a DC job, this decision should be incredibly easy and result in you transferring, if you have the option. GMU is, at best, the fifth best school at placing in DC.

As for your chances, GULC EA transfer admissions is notoriously a black box. You've got as good a chance as anyone, but it's far from guaranteed. There are lots of people with your numbers (or their equivalent) who were admitted last year, and lots of the same who were deferred and admitted RD. I think you'll eventually get in, but I'm not sure when.

GL and congrats on your success so far!

I would say it is 100% worth it for dc. I would only say stay at GM if you were pursuing working in NOVA not DC (but you stated you didn't). Even if you get in and decide not to go, it's still worth an app IMO b/c then you might be able to possibly levy the acceptance for additional $$$ at Mason

Alright, thanks for the replies. That is interesting though. So GULC students get higher preference simply off the bat even if grades are significantly higher at GMU? If that's the case, than I would be a fool not to transfer if given the opportunity.

I was under the impression it was getting harder to find good jobs from Georgetown due to the large number of students they have going there.

It's astronomically harder to find jobs in DC coming from GMU.
