So you've transferred: Resume?
Anybody who is transferring given thought to how they will designate such on their resume? You obviously need to disclose it. I was thinking something like:
Jim Shoe
Georgetown University Law Center
Juris Doctor, 2012 (expected)
Transfer student from University of Florida Levin School of Law
GPA: 3.58 Class rank: 17 / 103 (top 18%)
Etc., Etc.
Florida State University
Bachelor of Science, 2009

Under your education section, I'd go with something more along the lines of this:chitown825 wrote:Anybody who is transferring given thought to how they will designate such on their resume? You obviously need to disclose it. I was thinking something like:

Uiversity of Florida Levin School of Law, 2009-2010

FSU
B.S. blablabla 2009
Of course you can add all the bolds, italics and that other stylized nonsense.

Re: So you've transferred: Resume?
Also, abbreviate Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Science to J.D. and B.S. Everyone reading it knows what they stand for and you don't risk sounding like a self-important doucher.

Re: So you've transferred: Resume?
I wasn't asking for resume advice--I put about 5 seconds of thought into Jim Shoe's fictitious resume. I only sought your opinion on the designation of one's transfer status.seespotrun wrote:Also, abbreviate Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Science to J.D. and B.S. Re: So you've transferred: Resume?
That's a bit misleading I think. It doesn't make it obvious that the GPA is from the school you transferred from (although you'd think an employer would be able to figure this out on his own)
I would reccomend something like this:
Georgetown University Law Center
Juris Doctor, 2012 (expected)
Transfer student from University of Florida Levin School of Law
University of Florida Levin School of Law
GPA: 3.58 Class rank: 17 / 103 (top 18%), First year courses completed
Etc., Etc.
Florida State University
Bachelor of Science, 2009
That being said, I haven't completely figured out how to do it, but your original post would a bit misleading I think

Credited. Your new Career Services Office should tell you/give you an example, but it will almost certainly look like this. No need to have the word "transfer" anywhere on there- they get it.YouWish wrote:Here's what I'm doing until I have a semester at the new school:

Re: So you've transferred: Resume?
I agree with this. However, re: spelling things out vs. abbreviating, the career people at the school I'm transferring from made me spell out almost everything from JD to BS to the states I was referring to, etc. I thought it was stupid, but did it anyway. I will seek counsel on this at my new school.UCLAtransfer wrote:Credited. Your new Career Services Office should tell you/give you an example, but it will almost certainly look like this.
