Post by beaniew » Wed Jul 07, 2010 7:45 pm

See you guys in the fall. I have been living in Berkeley now for 5 years. If you have any questions about where to live, where to eat/shop, and What to Do before School Starts. Shoot me a pm.

Just committed to Berkeley this weekend. Went out to visit the campus and city and was really impressed. I know a lot of people on here are weighing other options and that some people will likely be committing this week if they haven't yet.

On a somewhat related note, for people that have created CalNet IDs already, are you able to use those to access the academic and career services stuff? I want to look at the Two Year Curriculum Plan thing but I can't get it to work. I made an ID to fill out the SLR but for some reason it's not working for the other stuff. Maybe because I don't have an @berkeley email yet, or because I just committed and it hasn't processed?

I just thought I would revive this thread now that the July 15th deadline has passed. If anyone needs input on where to live in Berkeley, etc. Shoot me a pm. I have lived in East Berkeley and North Berkeley and am generally quite familiar with all other areas.

Anyone found housing yet? I'm starting to look this week. In SF for the summer too, if anyone wants to get together!

When are you all arriving in Berkeley? My wife and I will be getting there the 7th, and I just set up my mock interview for the 13th. I'm sending my wife out there next week to look for housing. She's planning on spending an entire week there to look. I hope that we can find something close enough and for a decent price.

Maybe we can set up a time to meet before or after orientation.

BTW, are any of you married?

Anyways, I'm stoked.

I was out there a week and a half ago and found a place off Shattuck Ave. Seems like a good area in terms of proximity to everything and is only like 7 blocks from Boalt. I did some research online of places I wanted to look at beforehand and did my entire apt search in like 5 hours- saw about 9 diff places in 4 buildings all in the South Berkeley area. Of course this was just looking for a place for 1 person so that made it easier as I didn't have to convince anyone else. The city (or at least the areas I was looking at) is not that big and apt searching is so much easier than in a huge city.

Will be moving in August 1st, then going home for a week to see family and returning August 12th before orientation.

Heck yeah I'm doing the write on. 10AM tomorrow! How much time are you guys planning on dedicating to it? Do you think it is a 9-5 type competition, or more like a 12-14 hour per day thing? I have to admit, I'm a little nervous.

Realistically I'll prolly spend 4-6 hours/day over the course of the write on due to work and other obligations.

Yeah. The email reads as follows:

Before you enroll at Berkeley Law, we want to make sure you know that each state has established character, fitness and other qualifications for admission to the bar. We encourage you to determine what those qualifications are in the state(s) in which you intend to practice. For information on various exams and links to most state bar offices, visit the web site for the National Conference of Bar Examiners (http://www.ncbex.org/bar-admissions/offices/). You can also find additional information on Berkeley Law's web site (http://www.law.berkeley.edu/421.htm).

Sincerely,
Berkeley Law Admissions

I wonder how many people saw the packet and decided to apply to a secondary. I almost did. Lol.

You don't have to apply to those. You just join any journal you want once school starts.

Exactly. That seems a lot more enticing than the write on...

Law Review Write-on Competion 1; Me 0. I am throwing in the towel. Much too intimidating and time demanding for me. Going to enjoy the remainder of my summer.

Yea...haven't been able to put in as much time as I would have liked b/c of work, but I'm sure most people are in the same boat. The editing packet was...hefty

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
