I'm still very interested in attending Penn, but I have yet to hear from Columbia or Harvard...and Penn's deposit is due on Friday. Does anyone know if the $500 deposit is "binding", or if it simply reserves a spot in the class?

My first dive into the transferapps database revealed some interesting stuff:

2008:
-admitted at penn from a top 25% at a top 20 school
-top 15-20% at a top 20-25 school

2007:
-top 15% at a school ranked 22 (also in at Virginia; Berkeley; Michigan; Penn; Columbia; NYU)

Yeah, I saw that. I have comparable stats to all of those people and still not in.

My general impression has been that this cycle has been far more competitive then in the past. Honestly, I have seen very few people on these boards crack the t10 with top 10-15% grades from a t30. You seem to need top 10% from a t30, top 5% from anything else.

Sounds about right shmoo. This cycle is crazy competitive. I'm still hoping for even a late Penn acceptance -- it's my top choice I think.

Same here. Have they admitted a lot of students already?

Actually, I don't really know. Seems like a handful have been accepted on this forum, and I know one girl from my school who got in almost 2 weeks ago. Does anyone know how many transfers penn takes, and how many have already been accepted?

Last year I believe they took about 30. It's incredibly hard to gauge how many people have been accepted. I know 2, however, who got in and do not report on this forum.

Very little news of any kind from anywhere lately. Maybe this whole cycle is a week slow for most applicants due to application overload.

Rejected at Penn; t35, top 5% (174/2.72, if it matters).

An e-mail. I should add for those people who are going to be like, "oh no, is the cycle THAT tough," that I did kind of laugh off the supplemental essay. Could've played a role here.

They seem to be working pretty fast. I applied on the 15th, went complete on the 19th, and was told I should receive a decision by the end of next week.

How so?

How did I laugh it off? By writing something like, I really have no clue what I want to do in 5 years, but, you know, I kind of have a vague idea as to what I'd like to practice and Penn seems like a nice place to go if I want to do that, because of some long attenuated story about a Penn 3L I saw arguing before the Third Circuit at my summer job.

Honestly, it's probably because adcomms read this site and saw you say things about how you don't really want to practice law and have no real desire to go anywhere besides Harvard. Also that you're crapping on G-town, when in reality, that appears to be how high you can go. So unclassy.

How long does it generally take to receive a decision once one is "under review?"

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
