I still don't know if I'm choosing Columbia over merely staying where I am, but I know I'd take it over NYU. Thanks for reminding, I'll withdraw ASAP.

Why was the NYU office closed last Friday and Monday?

Their website said something about either renovation or relocation.

I went Decision Letter Sent today. I was wondering, has NYU rejected anyone yet? I figure coming this early in the season it is almost certainly an acceptance, but I just wanted to see if there had in fact been any rejections yet. I am better than top 5% at a school ranked 34.

Congratulations if that's the case. I applied on the deadline so I'm still being processed.

Is it immensely stupid of me to prefer NYU to Columbia just for the possibility of getting onto LR at NYU?

I don't know if it's immensely stupid, especially if you're a good legal writer. It would be nice to know the rate of success in the transfer competition. This:

At the very beginning of the academic year, the law journals conduct a smaller version of the standard writing competition for newly enrolled second-year transfer students. From this competition, the Law Review will select at least one and potentially more members, depending on the size of the rest of the rising second-year Law Review class.

isn't very illuminating. Perhaps an NYU transfer could provide some more concrete information.

I spoke with a student who transferred to NYU last year. He said that one person did write on to law review. Their transfer class is like 37 people, but I doubt everyone tried to write on. So, maybe you can assume around a 5 or 10 percent success rate? I cant say for sure, but the odds are against you.

It probably shouldn't be the sole reason you're choosing NYU over Columbia. Check out both schools and see which one you like more before you make your decision.

I am/was in the exact same situation as you. If it helps, I found it to be an immensely stupid possibility, and therefore chose Columbia over NYU. Columbia still has 13 other journals which you can try your hand at getting on, and have a great chance of getting a note published (that's why I'm interested in journals at least). I know they're not "Law Review," but at that level, you really don't need to keep searching for the resume fodder. If you enjoy the possibility of writing and editing, I'd go with Columbia. If you solely yearn for the Law Review accolade, then roll the dice I suppose.

Well, you do if you're looking for clerkships. Some clerkships, anyway. Maybe most good ones. I'm beginning to ask myself whether I should have done the Columbia write-on instead of the Harvard (same week). That said, beyond a kind of minimalist technical solution to their problem, which would be great if you were working for a judge but not so great in a writing competition, I didn't think I'd have much to say, so I chose not to write about it.

In!!! T3 #1/2xx in Michigan. Already accepted at dream school (UofM). Is there a big difference between T6 and T10?

Not as big as the difference between T5 and T6.

They're sorting the mail.

Mine said that for a week before going under review.
