Yeah my GPA for top 5ish% (I admit I'm slightly over 5 but it's by such a marginal amount that I don't think it matters esp. given the very small class size at my school) is much lower than you'd expect for T5% at a school. I think that may be hurting me.

That and my apps going in late in the cycle.

Final cycle results:

T2 (#86)
Top 6%, LR

In @ IU-B
Out @ GULC
Out @ Northwestern

I only applied to a couple schools because I'm fairly pleased with my current school. Just thinking about down the road.

Anyways, I'm probably going to stay where I'm at. IMHO it's better to be T2 top 6% than Transfer Student X at a top 25/30.

honestly... i think id would actually be happier if i was top 20-30% instead of 10. I would feel happier being admitted to ND/GW/WUSTL/Emory type school.
Now i feel like my gpa is wasted......

Unfortunately, for the transfer process, yes. In terms of raw GPA and statistics, the gulf between top 10% and top 5% is much wider than, say, 15 to 10 or 20 to 15. Somebody who is top 4% will have a much higher GPA by 'eyeballing it' than somebody who is top 9% at most sufficiently large schools. It's a quirk of the data, but it's true. Absent compelling softs and/or already being at a very highly ranked school, I suspect that there appeared to be a large emphasis on the actual GPA number. This explains why the top 15-8% region or so seems to have produced almost alarmingly worse results for some candidates - while others, like MegaTTTron who actually had a very high gpa "number" despite being in that class rank , wound up doing quite well. I can think of a few other posters with quirky results that can probably attribute some of their success or failure this cycle to dissonance between GPA number and rank as a percentage.

This. Being on the edge of 'maybe' sucks. If I had no hope maybe I could have enjoyed my summer.

Never, ever thought I would be able to type the following:

In at GULC via email at 3:52p CST.

T2, top 6%, graded on to law review.

Absolutely better to stay in your situation. 100%. Congrats on IUB regardless, though.

Cycle complete: T18, top 2-5%, LR

Stanford: Out
Harvard: Out
Berkeley: In

I think that softs played a huge role, as it seems that a lot of people with great numbers applied. Thinking it might be better to stay where I am than transfer.

Congrats on Berk, but I think you are absolutely right to stay. Depending on your goals, H/S probably would have been worth it, but you are in such a killer position that leaving for anything less probably wouldn't open any more doors for you . . .

I would have made your decision to stay as well, but I'm surprised Harvard didn't bite... yahoo transferapps seems to indicate that top 5% at T18 has a good shot at one of the holy trinity.

This question has been asked numerous times. No one has heard of rejections yet, but I think at least one person who could not log in to the admitted students site was accepted. We will know in a couple of days if there have been rejections from the current batch of decisions.

I will say that it took about 5 days for my acceptance package to come, but I could log in to the admitted students site. When I called to ask if that was a definitive indicator, the person told me I could try, but did not sound sure that this would be an accurate indicator. In retrospect, given the experience of the student I mentioned above, I think the message is that some admitted students might not be able to log into the site.

I'm still under review so I'm interpreting a lack of decision as a very bad sign.
