I am currently at Samford - Cumberland in AL and am thinking about transferring back to NC, since that is where I want to practice law and is close to my family. My grades from 1st semester were way below stellar, 2.2. I believe that Samford and Elon are on the same playing field. Do I have a hopeful shot at transferring into Elon?

Where does that GPA put you in class rank? If you don't vastly improve this semester, I doubt any school would accept you as a transfer b/c schools, especially schools like Elon, desperately need students to pass the bar and gain employment once they graduate so it can help the school's reputation and accredidation.
I'm sorry, but a rejection seems the likely result. Good luck though!

I couldn't imagine any law school even so much as flirting with ABA accred. would take a 2.2. Sorry.

Improve this semester. Send in the application. Really explain your need to transfer. I don't give you very good chances, but I'm not going to say it's impossible. It's worth a shot. For now concentrate on improving your grades, though.jrs2009 wrote:I am currently at Samford - Cumberland in AL and am thinking about transferring back to NC, since that is where I want to practice law and is close to my family. Wow. I have to say, I know you won't want to hear this, but it might be time to start thinking about a new line of work. Unless you are just a stellar networker or have major contacts-in-law in NC, the current economy is likely to deny you an interview, let alone a job, with the type of grades you're working with and the school(s) you will be graduating from. Think carefully about what the possible return on your investmet in a law degree will be given all your circumstances.
