I would PM but I think a lot of your info would be of general interest for this thread

If you don't mind sharing...where did you transfer from? (Or approx. rank if you don't want to say the school) GPA/rank at that school?

Do you like GULC? How did transfers fare at OCI? Are you happy with the decision to transfer?

Seconded. Also, that sounds like everyone found out at the same time? I guessed it would be like regular rolling admissions, is that not accurate?

Id search for other threads like this from last year. I am sure people were posting when they found and stuff. If you do, let us know! hahaha

I was wondering about that too but I don't wanna e-mail the admissions office yet. My guess is that EA apps all find out at once and RD is rolling...

Applying EA, kinda counting on a defferal to regular admission but hoping for the best!

Catholic U

3.46: we don't rank until after the spring but last year the cut off for top 10% was 3.58 and the cut off for top 20% was 3.34; so approximately inside the top 15% somewhere.

Nifer - How does it work for law review/journals? Was it easy to adjust to a new environment - or did you feel like an outsider? I don't know anyone from DC and am a bit nervous about leaving a familiar city to move to a new setting, especially in 2L year when everyone already has an established social circle.

I'm attending a School in the 50-70s and I'm ranked 3/200. Undergrad: 156/3.54. Everything but my PS has been sent into LSAC. GL everyone.

FWIW you can have transcripts, LoRs, etc. all submitted directly to GULC if you don't want to wait around for the LSAC to process them.

Thanks for the heads up bud, GT already received the transcript, and they are only waiting for the LoR and supplemental form so it shouldn't take too much longer.

I know this may be a stupid question but, how do you submit your law school transcript to LSDAS? My account says at the top of the transcript page "you cannot add institutions to your file at this time."

Not stupid at all. I actually had this problem and after waiting on the phone for a good 45 minutes I got an answer. Send LSAC an email with your name, school, LSAC ID #, and what you are sending them and the dates of attendance. They will add it to your file, and once they do you wil be able to print out forms for the spring semester.

Weird, I also called them and they just told me to mail them the transcript with my LSAC number written inside. Once they received it they added my school (and my transcript) to my file. I thought it might take longer since there was no transcript request form, but everything was processed within a couple days.

Anyone know if you can live far away from campus and still have a reasonable commute? How is the area for safety? I have a small child and my wife and I are worried about locations like D.C. and NYC for transferring purposes......I think GULC is my best chance at a t14 so I am torn in this regard. Thanks!

Thanks a lot. You obviously saved me 45 minutes on the phone with them, hahaha. Which email do I send it to? I saw that there is a support email and an information email.

Same. Thank you for your info. I had my transcript sent directly to GULC, but if I apply to any other schools obviously I'll want the LSAC to have it.

I just sent it to the general LSAC email. the one under "contact us" or something...they will usually answer between 2-3 days

EA is not rolling (at least it wasn't last year). Everyone that is admitted EA finds out on the same day. People that are deferred or rejected find out about a week later.

OCI went very well for me. It went well for all of the transfers I know, but I don't know very many. I've heard rumors (only on the message boards) that transfers overall didn't do as well as they had in the past. My bet would be that it was a function of the economy and that students overall faired worse than in years past. I received 4 offers, all in the D.C. area and I am very happy with my options. On two of my interviews I was told specifically that they wouldn't have interviewed me if I hadn't transferred. Understandably from my perspective, it was a good choice.

If you are admitted EA, you will be able to participate in the write on competition for journals. They do not take your grades into consideration - so the entire competition is based on your submission. You have one week to complete the competition and you are given about a two month time span to complete it in. EA students will be admitted in plenty of time - but I know some regular admits who were admitted too late to participate. I was able to write onto my first choice of journals, and have been overall happy with the experience. It was definitely a good way to meet some other students outside of the classroom.

I'm not all that crazy about GULC from a social standpoint. Students haven't been very friendly and I'm not having nearly as much fun as I did my first year at my old school. This is probably because it's so much easier to make friends your first year - everybody is new and in the same section. Also, I live much farther from GULC than I did from my first school so I'm not around to make the extra effort to meet people.

I'm doing very well at GULC now. We don't rank, and with the new curve that was implemented this year, it's hard to tell exactly where I stand. I'd guess top 5%, but I could be off by a little.

Let me know any other general questions, or if you need any specifics, PM.

Thanks for the great info, Nifer. When you say that GULC doesn't rank, does that pertain to the entire student population or jsut transfers? I know some schools don't rank their transfers in general, which is somewhat of a disincentive to transfer when you are included on the curve 2L year.

I think you find out at the end of the school year certain cutoffs (10%, 33%, etc.), but you don't find out exactly what # you are in the rankings (i.e. #56). I have no idea as of now simply because there is a new curve and the cutoffs won't be posted until the end of next semester.

Here's what I found

Graduation honors for students who transfer to Georgetown Law after their first year of law school or for students who visit another institution will be based solely on grades earned at the Law Center. This policy applies only to magna cum laude and cum laude graduation honors. To be eligible for consideration for the award of summa cum laude, a graduate must have completed at least 71 credits at the Law Center.

ORDER OF THE COIF, GEORGETOWN CHAPTER
The Order of the Coif was established in 1912 to recognize graduating students who achieved an exemplary cumulative grade point average. Graduating students whose cumulative grade point averages place them in the top 10% of the class are elected to membership in the Order, the national law school honor society for the encouragement of scholarship and advancement of ethical standards in the legal profe
