I guess the next question for those unfortunate souls that were deferred would be when can you be accepted off of the deferral list? Anytime? Will there be movement after the deposit deadline?

Interesting question. The wording of the email is also curious:
The Committee on Admissions has reviewed your Early Action application for the Fall of 2010 and has decided to defer making a final decision on your file to the Regular Action process.

If you will be receiving spring semester grades, the Committee must see your transcript prior to making a decision, so it is critical that you get them to us as soon as grades are available.

Note the word "if"

Yes, you just send in your new grades and any updates to your application (summer work experience, additional or updated LORs, etc).

To the previous question whether applicants stand a better chance under regular admission the answer is a big yes. A lot of applicants in this thread who have been deferred will be admitted provided they maintain similar grades this semester. Good luck to all.

My instinct would be to agree with this, but the database scares me b/c I noticed several like top 5%ers that went up in GPA and were rejected during RD. That would suck.

Sorry man.

hmm thats not that long ago.

Mabye its not bulk?

Exactly. Its an odd feeling right now - waiting for/dreading an email that says we are deferred (not knowing if/when it will come) but then at the same time realizing that without one it could mean an outright rejection. Weird shit.

That being said, whatever keeps me in the same boat as you, Kings, thats what I'm hoping for.

Just to make sure, everyone who got the email - your status/date never changed on status checker, correct?

It is absoutely true that your chances under RD will go up if you maintain your ranking. But 5% from a TTT isn't going to guarantee you spot at GULC. However, it will give you a pretty good shot.

A'nold, you will be fine. I think your only concern was your T3 status and the deferral (along with the fact that a few T3's and 4's got in EA), I think, shows that they arent going to discriminate on you because of that. You will rock this semester (even if you are burned out) and be good to go RD.

Thanks for the encouragement. :)

I think you and Kings are in EA. That's my hypothesis and I'm sticking to it.

Yo.

Not to incite chaos and fear BUT

Former T30, now T34 top12% no deferral still under review, status date is still april 20th.

I am probably a reject.

Just heeeeeads up.

I think you have a better shot then you are giving yourself, defintly by no means an auto reject

Agreed (although I admit I want to aid my optimism) If anything you are closer to an admit at a T30. If not, you would be a perfect candidate for deferral because just a little better semester puts you at top10% or higher at a T30 which will get you into GULC most of the time. Besides, the fact that we are with Kings is a good thing.

Sorry to hear. Still, I am sure you are good for RD.

Good question though. I hope not.

Honestly, this is so much worse than when everyone went to DR. This is like a constant state of limbo - waiting for an email, hoping for an acceptance, praying its not a rejection.

Before, I kept hearing the jeopardy music in my head while waiting. Now I am hearing the jaws tune. That can't be good.

What time was the email sent EST?

We're trying to figure out if this is an all-day thing, or if those without the e-mail are "safe" (at least until they start the new batch of deferrals tomorrow haha)

Does someone want to do some legwork and see how long the first and 2nd EA waves were last year? Might give us some indication of when we (maybe) could expect to hear what all of this means.

Are there even waves of EA acceptances? I don't know why they wouldn't just accept all the EA people at once - it doesn't make much sense to do it over the course of several weeks. The only logic I can see in it is hold the EA window open until the first deposit deadline, and accept the (probably very few) people that don't send in their deposit.

last year they mailed deferrals, so this is very different. Last year first round of acceptances was on the 20th, then a bunch of deferrals, then one more round of acceptances sent out around May 5th

I hate to be going negative, but it seems pretty logical that for the first round so far we have had acceptances and deferrals meaning rejections must be coming shortly. I know there are some great applicants numbers wise that have still not heard anything, but that doesn't mean they can't be rejected for other reasons. Being in the same boat doesn't mean you are somehow "protected" from what is coming next. I guess what I am saying is that I wish I had gotten a deferral this morning, but hopefully I am wrong. GL to everyone.

Anyone want to compile the numbers of those who did hear back today - just tryin to see if there is any correlation. All of these numbers seems pretty damn good. Hard to imagine we are all outright rejected. Still though, doesn't mean one/some of us aren't I suppose.
