Wow. Of course the school I chose fell 4 spots and the school I let go is now at 20.
Good thing New York > rankings (at least in my mind).

Well we are just going to have to bring it back to the top 25. They also got hit hard by keeping a large evening program when everyone else is slashing it and Fordham just this year cut the evening program.
+1 to turning down GW for Fordham and couldn't be happier about it!

Looks legit. Wow. #34. I'm kinda sad about that, luckily I don't really buy into the rankings THAT much. Grr...

I suppose there are two important questions: (1) will this have any effect on Fordham's placement? And (2) what steps is the school taking to improve its rank for next year?

I still think that every single one of us who was accepted to both GW and Fordham should get an extra $5,000 in merit aid though...to go from a 2 slot difference to a 14 slot difference is INTENSE!

Re: Fordham Class of 2013/2014
1) I don't think it will have much, if any, effect on job placement. NYC employers know Fordham students and know what they're capable of. It's a regional school, and irrespective of ranking, for those of us who want to practice in NYC, outside of the T-14 Fordham is the only logical choice.starsong wrote:I suppose there are two important questions: (1) will this have any effect on Fordham's placement? 2) I think the larger day class/smaller evening class they're introducing this year will help. Otherwise, I'm not sure they're doing anything?

I think Dani is right on in both accounts. As a good friend of mine and 2L at GW reminded me, GW went from 20 to 28 to 20 in 3 years. It's a fluid system and Fordham has kept a large evening class. I'm not super concerned, but mostly because I would rather work in New York than DC and I suspect that, even if we never catch up to GW again, we'll be back in the t30 within a year or so.danidancer wrote:1) I don't think it will have much, if any, effect on job placement. Yeah, I have the same goals and agree with both of you. Better days will come.LaurenGayle wrote:I think Dani is right on in both accounts. Re: Fordham Class of 2013/2014
Why do you guys think that shrinking the evening class is going to help the ranking? I don't follow this logic at all, so please expand.
For example, plenty of schools 20-30 have lower LSAT/GPA ranges than Fordham. This would be the main thing that increasing the FT class would improve, since the pool of students with high scores that are interested in an evening program is small. What else changes?

Yes...
I can envision hiring partners at big law firms across NYC, perched in their luxury deluxe suites, engaging in mass burnings of any resume that has FORDHAM stamped on it due to our inability to maintain a (fucking)6-way arbitrary tie for 28th best school in the country. Now they will exclusively be targeting William and Mary, UC Davis, UNC, and Wisconsin grads.
And forget about PI work...

Also, rankings mean dick in NYC. T14 > Fordham > GWU and the rest of T50-T15 for NYC employment. Don't believe me? See: Fordham, c/o 2009 employment statistics.
So I'm still going. You couldn't pay me to live in DC for one more year, much less convince me with a higher "rank."

Nothing, but increasing the overall medians--even by a few points--can make all the difference. A net decrease in the total class size would help as well.tesoro wrote:Why do you guys think that shrinking the evening class is going to help the ranking? Re: Fordham Class of 2013/2014
As a fellow DC-er itching to get out, I completely agree with all of this. What's important is that we are in the greatest city in the world, on top of numerous law firms/organizations/gov't offices, etc. who know (and have throughout their ranks) that Fordham students are intelligent, capable hires. I went to GW undergrad for four years, 20 ranking or not for their law school, I am completely satisfied with my decision to get the hell out of DC, move to NYC, and attend Fordham.tesoro wrote:Also, rankings mean dick in NYC. Does anyone have an idea of how much they shrunk their part time class? My brother has a 3.9 and a 164 and is on the WL.
