Re: University of Minnesota 2013
I'm gonna sneak in here (accepted to Bill Mitchell) and try to garner some info on MPS living...I'm from NYC and have been dependent on public transportation all my life...is the bus system decent? Does it run late? If I were to trek into downtown Minn. would I be stranded after the bars closed and forced to take a ridiculously expensive cab ride home to the Summit/Grand area?

I can't really answer this with any authority, but I've generally heard good things about the bus system. I'm not sure whether the buses run all night, though-- you will certainly miss the NYC subway, but that's true pretty much anywhere you go...Gunz353 wrote:I'm gonna sneak in here (accepted to Bill Mitchell) and try to garner some info on MPS living...I'm from NYC and have been dependent on public transportation all my life...is the bus system decent? Same here. Flying in Thursday afternoon, staying until Monday morning. Going to take a look at the housing. I am curious of the Mall of America. I've heard all sorts of things about it, is it worth taking a look at?
Also For anyone staying at Holiday Inn, the cheapest fare would be the online non-refundable one you purchase online. I called the receptionist there and they told me that the "U of Minnesota" rate is actually more expensive than the online rate.
Ripping us law students off already...

The MOA is my least favorite place on Earth. Have you ever been to a mall before? Of course you have! OK, imagine that mall but x10 and w/ a crappy amusement park in the middle and you have the MOA...Jenno wrote:Same here. Flying in Thursday afternoon, staying until Monday morning. I guess it's worth seeing once, though, and it's easy to get to from the Holiday Inn. Just walk or take a cab ride to the nearest lightrail station and go south.

yeah, it's pretty much a big mall with a kiddie roller coaster in the middle. maybe worth seeing, but certainly not much of a reason to choose mpls over anywhere else.Slimpee wrote:The MOA is my least favorite place on Earth. If you're on a budget (like me) during ASW, check out hostels: http://www.hostelworld.com/findabed.php ... ountry.USA

I've been accepted, but I haven't gotten my admissions packet yet. Is the first deposit due on April 15, and is it non-refundable?

Congrats on the acceptance. The $750 nonrefundable seat deposit is due by April 19th. You can pay either online or via check.MBZags wrote:I've been accepted, but I haven't gotten my admissions packet yet. Is the first deposit due on April 15, and is it non-refundable?

Thank you! I feared that I wouldn't be able to visit before making a decision, but it looks like I can now.

You're welcome. If you're out of state, you might be eligible for the travel reimbursement too

I received information about it in the admission's packet. It is for non-residents.

Registered for the March ASW just last night. Whoever's gonna be there, I'll see you then (also going on the housing tour).

I'm actually from NY too! Just wondering if anyone would have any idea how much a 1br within walking distance would cost? Also, would my little Nissan survive the winters there?

Re: University of Minnesota 2013
Congrats everyone.
@the poster with the Nissan. I see Nissans everywhere around here. Despite what outsiders may have heard, we do not have a martian climate (even though it feels like it sometimes). You can invest in a space rover if you want to be extra safe, but I think you'll be fine rocking the Nissan all over town. I drive a Saab with virtually bare lo-pro tires, which is stupid, but it is what I have and I am still alive.
Also, read up through the rest of the thread. We have discussed apartment options within walking distance and otherwise. You should also check the admitted students page for housing info...and finally, come to March ASW! They have a special housing tour that you may want to participate in (I believe spots are limited, so check it out soon).

Just got in today and I'm wondering how much the max travel reimbursement is for. I'm coming from Toronto so it will be a fairly expensive trip.
