I think there was someone a few pages ago talking about looseleaf books.

Summary:
PROS: Less expensive, less to carry to class

CONS: They said they didn't like the looseleaf because they kept on misplacing pages or getting them out of order.

Personally, I'm going with the regular books because I'm a klutz, and I will definitely lose pages or end up with such a clusterf#@# of papers at the end of the semester that they'll be useless to me.

That was me. I’ll add some to the summary. I was worried about misplacing or getting the pages out of order (many of my classmates did just this. It shortly became I couldn’t read the assignment cause I don’t have those pages). I personally bought a 3-inch binder (only size that would hold all the pages well, I imagine LS books may need a bigger binder or not fit at all) to carry around to class the entire time which negated one of the PROS. So for me it was:

PROS: Less expensive

CONS: Same amount to carry for me, still worried about misplacing pages or getting them out of order, the pages were fragile in the binder making them hard to mark the page I was reading or highlighting information (I don’t highlight but I imagine many do), reading a large book out of a large binder is annoying (if you read with the book sitting on your legs, the sides of the binder will dig into your flesh unlike a regular textbook), and lastly and possibly to me the worst part the books are not going to last. The book is already showing stress on the hole punches and the three inch binder on my shelf looks really weird and out of place with a bunch of hardback books – tacky even.

TLDR version: Some people will love the savings of not being bound, but it has a lot of CONS.

+1. Where can we get them? Even better, does anyone know the times they are open on Friday? I should arrive Friday between 4-6. Not sure exactly when.

They are picked up at the goCard office on the lower level of McDonough. Easiest way to get there is the entrance right by the bookstore. Otherwise, enter the back of McDonough, go down the stairs, right, and down the hall all the way.

Hours are (from http://www.law.georgetown.edu/gocard/index.html)

Mon - Thu 10:00AM - 5:30PM Fri 10:00AM - 5:00PM

Thank you. I was not being lazy, just was using my phone to post.

Speaking of that, does anyone know how to login to the dorms network? Just curious for when I get up there.

Hey you guys, I will be at Rocket Bar off of 6th in between H and G with about 40 other transfer students and Gtown 3L's, come by if you guys don't have anything to do! We will be there by 9pm. Rocket bar is like 2 blocks away from GULC. Hope to see some of you there.

Hi everyone!

I've been a lurker for awhile, living on 2nd floor Gewirz and in section 3! Hope to meet some of you at orientation, getting off the plane Saturday around 6pm with three huge heavy bags with me....yikes! =)

Where exactly can you buy looseleaf text books? I did google it but I couldn't find any law textbooks available that way. I was planning on cutting the bindings off my textbooks to make them looseleaf anyway, so I'd love to save a few bucks.

Thanks!

I might be doing this wrong, but I went to "request a refund" under the student account services menu and just submitted the amount that was on there. I think they said it would take up to 72 hours to disburse. I guess we'll see....

Yay Gewirz tomorrow. I'm pretty excited, although I'm getting scared that I may have brought too much stuff and it won't fit in that tiny room...

Are any of your parents helping to move you in? My dad's coming along because he wanted the excuse to tour DC and escape from work and all of that.

Are there any plans for Saturday night after Gewirz move-in?

Dudeeeeeeeee! I think I need your contact info.

Anyone else want to hang out on Saturday night, we've got 4-5 TLSers so far and I think one is bringing a +1. Let me know, should be fun.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle the Gewirz sign-in/drop-off with a Taxi?

I'm wondering this too. I have too many bags to walk myself from checkpoint A to checkpoint B so I'm just going to go to the second one and drop them off there...I hope it works ok. Luckily I'll be one of the later ones checking in around 630....so I hope that makes it easier for them. =/

It will take me four trips, on foot, from a block away. And that's before I have to go shopping for things, like bedding.

So as I walked up to the campus today to show my mom around (dorky 1L, i know) and pick up my GoCard (which made me really happy!), I saw a UPS truck unloading A TON OF BOXES outside Gewirz and it made me laugh, thinking about how all of us have shipped SO MUCH to them.

Excited about move-in tomorrow, although honestly not sure how it's going to work. We have so much (SO much) crammed into my mom's car and a rooftop carrier! ahhh.

Welcome to DC, to those of you who have been arriving! ah, I just love it so much. Can't wait to move in.

Is anyone else going on the nighttime monument tour with Gewirz tomorrow night? (it was on the schedule). The monuments at night are beautiful.

So I have a couple quick questions about the financial aid. Has anyone heard about when we can submit requests for increase in GradPLUS loans for rent, laptop, etc? (The laptop increase states that it has to be purchased during the academic year which has been defined as starting September 1) Also, do we have to wait until that is approved/denied to request the refund of this semesters loans or can we get what they currently have listed now and then they'll give increase amount if they approve it in a week or two?

I'll probably be calling the FA office on these questions anyway, but just curious if anyone else has researched these questions.

I went to Yoga on campus today. The gym is nice, it makes me super happy. Best part - each locker room has a hot tub and a machine that removes the water from your swimsuit.

WHAT? I WANT THIS NOW.

I should have gone after I picked up my GOCard. But I needed a three-hour nap.

Hmm, things are expensive here. Who knew? (As I'm replying to the girl from NYC who is probably enjoying the bargains of DC...)
