I'm in section 3!

Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take pictures in the gym at all. However, it seemed pretty nice. There seem to be a good amount of machines, and the treadmills, etc. have TVs on each one.
That's too bad, thanks for trying though!

Hey! Are y'all thinking of doing any of the extra Orientation activities? Section service projects? Faculty talks/tours? Bike Ride?

First I've heard of these. A bike ride could be fun!

Rocket you in for the bike ride?

And where are we riding them? I picture a hoard of dorky 1L's in Hoya Lawya shirts (just for laughs) with big helmets riding through the busy streets of DC. Makes me smile =)

I'll be in DC by the 15th of August. If the inaugural one is prior to that, I hope there are subsequent ones...

I vote we do it after move-in (Aug. 21), so we can account for all the Gewirzians!

I think someone (not me) should be appointed the leader (not me) and take charge on this. (not me)

Haha, that reminds me of the admitted student night at Rocket Bar. Dozens of us 0L's wearing big dorky name-tags suddenly barging in to this quiet bar, while all the confused regulars looked on (and laughed to eachother).

Check your e-mail (your non school e-mail), it should have sent your section there. "This won't help with getting classes and the new checklist for orientation, but will let you know your section." Call them in the morning if you don't have it?

Called them this morning and they said they'd look into and get back to me. They haven't called me back yet, but now I notice that the link to "Section Assignments" in the Admitted Students Website is gone. Anyone else have that happen? When I called this morning they told me that other students had called in with this issue.

I'm in section 4. Pretty excited to get started, it seems real now. I've been to Rocketbar in Chinatown; real solid place. I am living in Gewirz and moving up Aug 21, looking forward to going out with everyone.

For those in section 4, I did a little ratemyprof research. Goldberg for conlaw seems very popular, Abernathy seems considerably tougher and less popular.

JS, don't rip on the 1Ls at Rocketbar from the Early Admit weekend... I took you guys there!

As for professors, Abernathy is known for scaring the living shit out of students the first week of classes, but the man is on his game. The first day of classes, he cold-calls a couple people, and no matter how prepared you are, he says something to the effect of, "You're not prepared!" and then storms out of the room shortly into class, not to return. The second day of classes, you get your syllabus, which has that scheduled in. I didn't have him, but my friends who did say he expects you to be prepared. But the man's a legend on campus, and not in the negative sense.

Rocket, good to see you're getting an early start on the incoming 1Ls

For the Orientation week activities, I strongly recommend them all. For the bike tour, you can rent a bike right near campus. There's information about it you should be receiving shortly. I took the walking tour of near-to-campus Civil War sites, including a tour of Ford Theater. I also did meal prep at DC Central Kitchen. It's a really great experience, and it's right next to campus. DC Central Kitchen preps food for almost all of the homeless shelters around DC, and the people there are really a testament to the human will. Volunteering there is a great way to anchor yourself when you start feeling like you need a little perspective, and that Orientation Week volunteering event was where I met one of my closest friends at school.

People I know did several different tours and several different volunteer activities, and they all had great reports. Basically everyone in §3 did one of each. Dunno about the other sections, though, but I still strongly recommend 'em.
