In your dreams. Unless you band together with a few students and get a commuter pass (instead of your individual passes), you are parking in the green zone. Because the green zone spots on Towerview are ALWAYS full by about 4 in the morning, you are parking on Bassett if you are there early, or in the overflow lot if you get there when everyone else does (To get to it, you just keep driving on Bassett. Eventually it will curve to the right and down, and you will see the lot.).

If you get there between the hours of 10 and noon, you are not parking at all.

See also gravel lot on Duke University Road

And the Washington Duke Parking lot, but only if you remove your green zone pass and don't make a habit of it.

Frank Bassett Drive is where I was planning to park, although I hope I'll be able to snag a spot right off of Science Drive (in front of the athletic fields) first thing in the morning.

Depends on how "early in the morning" we are talking here. 7:00 AM? Perhaps. 8:15? Not a chance.

Bosque,

Do you remember if you needed a bag during LEAD week? It looks like we'll be doing a ton of different activities, so I'm trying to decide whether to bring a messenger bag or just a small portfolio

Is the Executive Conference Center parking lot off-limits to green zone permits during the day?

7:45. So maybe that's a no-go

No, I brought nothing. If I remember correctly, you get a folder when you first sign in the first morning and a name tag. But you shouldn't need anything else but your body (if I am remembering correctly).

Everyone parks in the overflow lot, it is not THAT much farther of a hike. And at 7:45... you might be able to park on the upper lot. Later in the year, after everyone has settled in.

But you should get a spot, which is all that matters.

My first class doesn't start till 11am, and I wasn't planning on getting to campus much earlier than that. Were you exaggerating about 10-12 being no-park hours?

Anyone looking to save some money and buy a digital copy of Krier's Property casebook or Yeazell's Civ Pro casebook? Anyone have any experience with these e-casebooks and have the time to explain to me how they function (online only, printable)?

Did anyone see this in the orientation email:

Attire for Orientation:  Attire is generally casual, except for Tuesday’s daytime programming, which is business casual.  On Thursday, be prepared to roll your sleeves up as you get out into the Durham community and participate in various community-service projects as part of “Dedicated to Durham.”

No, not an exageration at all. My first class doesn't start until 11 either this semester, but I am still going to try and get to campus by 9-9:30. I am either going to do work in the morning before class or go work out in the gym. Getting there at 10:45 for an 11:00 class would be suicide, especially since you guys are a bigger class than we were.

I think I explained what "Dedicated to Durham" is a few pages back. Any specific questions you have?

I was wondering more about the business casual part.

I read that and figured it would be a perfect opportunity to wear my burnt-orange tie (then again, what occasion isn't). I'm also wondering whether a suit would be a better choice since it will be very hot and I don't want anyone's first impression of me to be "that guy who sweated through his shirt." I guess I'll just have to put forth a more noticeable personality flaw to draw attention away (thus suit = super gunner).

Let's organize a TLS boycott. It's too hot for anything beyond jeans and a t-shirt.

Business casual for men:

Slacks, button up shirt, dressy-casual shoes. I guess you could wear a tie, but you'd be overdressed.

Business casual includes a tie (at least in business school it does--and I would assume the standards are the same in law school). I would also think its a plain-colored, long-sleeve, button-up shirt. Following those standards will still probably land me as overdressed though.

Don't wear a tie. In fact, if you wear Khakis and a polo, I think you will be just fine.

In general, no one should wear a tie unless they are also wearing a Jacket. Yes it has become expected to wear a tie without a jacket in the US. Doesn't mean I approve of the practice.

I'm pretty confident that business casual does not include a tie. At least I know I won't be wearing one (formal dress code is something that private-school has ingrained into my brain).
BTW, just started unpacking and building my target furniture. Let's just say my wrist muscles are on the wrong side of sore.

Business casual = slacks or nice khakis and a long sleeve, button-down shirt. Shoes can range anywhere from full-on leather-soled dress oxfords to decent looking loafers of some sort.

You can get away with a polo and khakis, but you'll look like a jackass (or the manager of a cell phone kiosk). Under no circumstances should you wear a polo and dress slacks. Don't wear white socks either.

It's the small, bent street below Koskinen stadium that connects Science Dr. to the west and 751/Cameron Rd. to the south.

I wouldn't feel right wearing a button down shirt without a tie. You can pick me out of the crowd accordingly.
