guyincognito wrote:I am sorry to burden my future class mates, but do to my irresponsibility I have a question for you all. I am still not sure which type of loans I will be using to pay for school...have you guys decided yet? If so, are you going the federal route, or borrowing directly from NU? Also, does anyone know how to start this process if I didn't apply for financial aid (because I had no chance in hell of getting any). Please feel free to lecture me about how I need to stay on top of this kind of stuff in the future. My pocket book thanks you 8)
What DF said...

ETA: You are most likely going to get $20,500 of Stafford Loans and the rest (up to COA) will be in Grad PLUS loans. I think that NU is the direct lender on the Grad PLUS loans.

Best not be hiding identity.
I'm going to be pissed if I don't see that mustache IRL.

Why not. What's the difference between $210K and $210,243 of debt. One caveat though: free drinks require interesting facial hair from those wishing to participate.

Other people who got the "We don't have money for you now but might later" email, did you just send a quick "Yes, pls still consider me" back, or did you write more than that? I was just going to do a quickie, but wasn't sure on the protocol for this...

I was going to say something like, "Please consider me. By the way I have ALL OF THIS MONEY from XYZ school on the line. K thx." But maybe that's a little obnoxious.

Ended up going with a short one bc I already wrote about other scholarship offers in my essays. Haha

To current People's College students: how spouse/significant other-heavy was the ASW? Did they come to most events? Or just the social stuff?

Very excited for the Goose Island party, BTW.

I don't know what the ASW was like with respect to significant others; most of us were not trying to hook up. (Although I did find out at lunch today that one of my classmates nailed a 3L at ASW last year, so at least one person was single.)

However, my experience is that not that many single people actually come here for law school. That is certainly true of my section.

NU's assistant director of financial aid just slashed my dreams of running a cardboard housing co-op and being a slumlord.

If that means you got aid, congrats! I was under the impression they weren't going to be issuing any further aid until after the scholarship deadline later this month.
That means they want me to pay sticker.

Oh, sorry, I was actually asking from the opposite angle -- my wife is coming with me and wonders if it would be weird for her to attend ASW events like the mock class, etc.

So Desert Fox has graciously agreed to plan a Chicago TLS meetup during ASW. The idea is to do it Thursday evening. Please PM him with RSVP's, it's important to have a good headcount: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/u ... se&u=48636

He should be creating a thread with bar details and RSVPs shortly.

Have fun!
