Is that what the email says?

Got my aid package. All loans. I'm ED. No mention of money being exhausted or anything like that, just a description of how to proceed.

I note that the COA they sent only allocates $2k for a computer instead of $3k. It doesn't matter much, since that's still more than you need for a computer.

And of course $12,376 is hardly enough to live on. If it's 100% rent it just barely clears $1030 per month. Then you just need to divert all your personal and transportation budgets into cup noodles and spam.

I'm definitely going to need some private loans to cover.

Does anyone know what the $1,600 transportation budget is for?

Air plane tickets, car expenses.

But really the food that the Room and Board doesn't cover.

Also I'm lucky, Illinois passed a law saying that children can be on their parents health insurance until 26, so I switched onto it this year. So I don't have to pay for health insurance for 1L. But I'll turn 26 during 2L so I'm SOL there.

Are there any other January or early February admits out there who have yet to receive an update of any kind? I haven't received a scholarship offer, a "we're sorry" email, or a loan package.

They don't appear to be going in order of acceptance, as me and NayBoer were the first admitted, and we just got them this morning.

It's a 9-month budget. That's ~$1,000/month for rent and $300/month for food. Very doable.

I was a January 22 admit and got the loan package earlier today.

I got the loan package today as well. In the email, it says that if you have any questions about scholarships to call the admissions office, as they are separate entities. Has anyone done this?

Transportation also includes $190 for a mandatory annual CTA pass, per the website.

Yeah, but what do I do for the other 3 months the loans won't cover? I'm going to need something to cover me through the summer, especially if I manage to secure an unpaid opportunity. Right?

I called because I haven't heard anything yet. In my case, the Office of Financial Aid is waiting to distribute my financial aid package because they have yet to hear from the Admissions office, which is still considering me for a scholarship. The financial aid office does not distribute the loan package until they've heard about a scholarship decision--yay or nay--from Admissions. Apparently, if you received a loan package with no scholarship award, that means that the Admissions office reviewed your application and decided not to award any aid.

It's weird being a sub-3 splitter. A 172 was enough to get admission to a half dozen T30 schools, including Northwestern. But my per-year awards at WUSTL (11k) and UIUC (15k) were almost as big as my award at Tier 3 McGeorge (15k+). So I don't really bemoan being ED and paying full freight to Northwestern.

Awesome. I think I know that guy. Maybe I can rent out the left side of his place. Add some newspaper curtains, really class up the place.

It's probably because once you are over the 75% it ceases to matter to schools how far above you go, and our GPA's are worse than the median GPA at every single school. Why would McGeorge pay for a 172 when they can get a 157 for free and have their number impacted the same?

I could probably get Cooley, and maybe John Marshall to give me a full ride.

I withdrew from UIUC, but I'd probably get 15K a year. Which would still leave me with 100K in debt.

Good to know -- thanks for asking -- and shame on them for being so passive-aggressive/cryptic about it.

Cooley seems to have an automatic full ride for 163+.

Also, their FT GPA 25th is 2.76, so you'd be over it. I wouldn't.

The 15k at UIUC basically brought me down to in-state, I think. Since you're already in-state it might have been different for you.

Do they send the loan package out to everybody, or just those that requested financial aid?

If you do unpaid work, you should have plenty of time to do something else besides.

You need to request financial aid to get the loans.
