When is the prep program? If it's after my finals, I'd be more than willing to hang out and let you guys buy me drinks.

I'm sitting in the atrium watching all the prep people come out. I wish I could go, even though I'll be a 2L. I could still use more advice on how life could be easier in school. Last year was torture. And nothing, NOTHING, APEx did was any help. 1Ls, don't go to that sh:t, its just a waste of your time.

Anyone living in 211 E Ohio? If you have a dog, its the bomb cuz it has a dog run. Lemme know, for we will be neighbors!

Hi everyone--haven't been here in a LONG time, dealing with some family stuff--my daughter had some major issues this spring/summer and (cross fingers) they are all sorted now, BEFORE I start law school. Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting you guys at last--I am going to the preparatory program, so I'll look for some of you there. I put in my resignation at work, and everyone was really happy for me. I budgeted in for one week of vacation between work and this prep thing... I haven't taken a vacation in over a year, so I'm looking forward to finally having a breather of sorts (though it's just visiting family). Hope everyone's doing well--I haven't read through but the last few pages of this thread!

You have a daughter? That's so exciting! I'm kind of a kid-lover. How old is she? Where are you guys living if you don't mind me asking? There's a bunch of parents here (myself excluded though) so you'll have a good support network. Are you a single mom or do you have a partner?

I'm endorsing this as the best building ever.

Isn't that basically what dorm rooms were?

I am coming straight from u-grad and don't know anyone. I am looking at signing a lease at either McClurg or Onterie. I prefer a more social building. I would appreciate any insight about either place.

Not sure there's such thing as a social building. The law school itself is a social building... and one of my classmates did spend a number of nights sleeping there because he lived far away and was too lazy after drinking at Timmy's to go home. I mean I know the dorms at undergrad had those common rooms for hanging out, but that's not really the case in apartment buildings.

But if you want to run into students more, a large percentage lives in Onterie, McClurg, 420 E Ohio, The Streeter, or 211 E Ohio, in order of far-awayness from the campus, the difference being about 4 minutes walking.

I was wondering if anyone knows if we are allotted a certain amount of printing on campus. I am probably going to buy a printer anyway, but I just wanted to see how much of a priority a printer should be.

100 pages per semester unless you are taking a summer class, then you get none over the summer. Printing cases from lexis is free though

100 pages really won't cover what you need. That's about 1-3 outlines right there depending on how long yours are. But do keep in mind that printing cases and law review articles is free from the lexis lab and the westlaw lab.

If you buy a printer, you will need to replace the ink pretty frequently depending on what you are printing. I was using mine for a paper I was writing and the piece of shit ran out of ink in like a week. And I always used the draft settings.

Conclusion:
The upside of printing in the law school is that its only $.05 per page, which is probably less than you'll spend on ink all year. Plus its fast.
The downside: you can only print in the library (this is a practical matter... you may also print in the career center and from an area on the 1st floor but the career center has bad hours and the printing station on the 1st floor has NEVER worked), and the library has restrictive hours. 7:30am-11pm.

There's no state tax on school supplies in Illinois until Sunday. :)

Is there a way to reload my printing quota if I use the 100 pages before the semester is finished?

HA. No.

Edit: you can still print as much as you want, but its $.05 per page after your first 100 pages.

Never mind. Ignorance and apathy defeated by ctrl-F.

Hey-she's 13... I have boy/girl twins, actually. At that age, you love them but (whisper) you don't always like them... Their dad died two years ago this coming Wednesday, so it's been a rough ride for them... lots of changes. He didn't leave a lot of resources for us, but I was fortunate enough to get a full scholarship--and my parents are nearby (which is why we moved back here from California in the first place), so I can make this happen both financially and practically. I'll be commuting from the western suburbs on the Metra--I can't really move with them in school and feeling stable for the first time in a VERY long time. But I know the city well--grew up here--and love it.
