Last year I got it on February 3. It was titled "Information on Applying for Financial Aid at the University of Virginia School of Law". The login information was put at the VERY bottom of the E-mail, even below the sender's signature, which is why I missed it the first several times I read it.

does anyone know if UVA will defer merit scholarship money for Teach for America? i found out if i am accepted tomorrow, so i'll have to start thinking about this if I get good news. the website says merit money is deferred on a case by case basis, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with deferral for TFA?

Adcomms jizz over TFA. I'm sure they'll defer it for you.

I'll probably just continue to use my baseball glove. My hand gets lost in those softball ones.

The website says they have internet included in the apartments. Has anyone heard if the provided internet works well or if residents end up getting their own internet?

90% of people get their own Internet (from Comcast). The free one only works okay between 00:00 and 06:00. I pay about $50 a month for Internet (I don't have any other services from Comcast).

Thanks! I want to make sure I have a speedy connection for Netflix and Hulu.

Its tougher to fit a softball in a baseball glove than in a softball glove. [/obvious]

First of all, congratulations to everyone who has been admitted to UVA Law. To everyone who is still waiting, hope you get some good news soon.

For anyone who is contemplating prepping before law school and wants to buy E&Es, I have some in pristine/new conditions if you'd like to buy them from me @ Admitted Student Day. I can also throw in some outlines to sweeten the deal.

There's a lot of talk on TLS about warning people not to prep beforehand, but it's ultimately a personal decision. Do whatever you feel most comfortable with. I know several people who prepped before school by reading E&Es cover to cover and dominated their first semester. It is still possible to do well without prepping before school, of course, depending on how hard you work during the semester. It's ultimately about what studying strategy best fits your personality.

UVA is a great law school, and I hope that most of you will choose it as the base for your legal education.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about those books or any other matter.

P.S. I am a 1L at UVA if that wasn't clear from the above.

I would most definately be interested in buying the E&Es from you, in addition to the outlines. I will be at ASW in March. Please PM me when you get a chance!

Read all the E&Es if you want, but you will (and should) be mocked mercilessly.

What's the point of making fun of someone for trying to succeed? (Most of the 1Ls on TLS, those who post and those who lurk, have gotten on this site to find ways to succeed in law school and then applied those methods to find what's best for them.)

As I stated above, there are several paths to that success but the strategy ultimately should be tied to what best fits the individual.

Some people can do better by "prepping" before because they have gotten a sense of the topics, so that by the time they end up reading it again during the semester, information sticks better. They should not be ridiculed for taking an approach that works for them.

It is possible to read E&Es beforehand without announcing that to your section/class. Best of both worlds?

I just have to laugh.

Soon enough you'll learn that everyone is highly motivated to succeed. Even the kids that go out a lot study large amounts during the day.

Never underestimate your competition. Law school is a whole new ball game.

Three suggestions:

1) Don't buy E&E's beforehand - I bought mine beforehand (and never read them) b/c I had money from working and wanted to buy those while I had money . . . I opened my civpro E&E twice and never opened the others - complete waste of money

2) Don't bother prepping, but if you do prep, the most beneficial books:
a) Thinking Like a Lawyer: A new introduction to legal reasoning by Schauer - very useful
b) Getting to Maybe - good insight into what you should be getting out of class
c) Abraham's Tort book (I think its Form and Function of Tort Law)
d) Chirelstein's contracts book (I think its Concepts and Case Analysis) - both of these are short primer's on contracts and torts

3) As far as commercial outlines, E&E's, and hornbooks - PILA (the public interest law association) holds a used book sale at the beginning of the semester and they are far cheaper to buy from. Plus, the money from their sale goes to supporting summer public interest funding for 1Ls and 2Ls . . . I know that there will be some brand new E&E books available used from them courtesy of my donation

Also, I strongly encourage the 1L's on here to donate their supplements to PILA

I was looking for the funny classroom/gunner/sniper pic but couldn't find it. You've been spared.
