If you've had utilities in your name before you should be able to get a letter of credit (That might have been for the gas though.) or they should waive the deposit (assuming you're not delinquent on your payments).

I don't remember them telling me about that? The woman did mention how my "fees were being waived" though, whatever that means.

Thanks, champ. Tried talking my way out of it, but failed. Can't win em all :-D

yeah that's what he said. Always under a friend's name. Oh well, didn't want to expend too much energy on it, since I'll get the money back anyways, just in about a year's time.

No, I posted a similar comment before, but no one has said anything about it. So I'm assuming we're all in the dark. I submitted an application via e-mail with a copy of the ad of the laptop I wanted from TigerDirect.com last month, but haven't heard back from the office of financial aid except for a confirmation that they received the application.

Did the same and have yet to hear back. I do not know if I should go ahead and buy it or wait...If someone wants to go ahead and email them and say "hey, I sent in my request and havent heard back. I am about to move down and do not know if i should go ahead and purchase my laptop. can i get some sort of timeline?" That would be great

My understanding is that typically, you have to buy the laptop first and then you submit your invoice (which will ALWAYS get approved as long as you're under the maximum $ limit). You won't get the laptop loan until you get your other loan disbursements.

Is anyone still looking for a place to live? I need to get out of the lease for the place I'm in, it's a 2BR/1BA unit about two blocks from the law school. PM me if you want details.

Laptop loan increase. I haz it.

Went checking on SIS and it appeared as a new loan (because it was a PLUS loan for me, which I didn't have before). So yeah. Sweet.

I was on Aetna last year (I'm a JD/MBA) - you can pay quarterly, but you have to provide your credit card number and select that option. They'll charge you when you originally opt-in and then again in November, February, and May.

Another option (and one I'm trying this year until I can go back on a parental plan in November, thanks to the new legislation) is to join the Student Section of the American Bar Association and then go on the ABA's student plan through UnitedHealth. Having not been on that plan before, I can't testify to how good it is vs. Aetna (which I hated), but the coverage looks comparable to Aetna in terms of copays/coinsurance, and the premium is about $1600 per year. The one catch (if this matters to you) is that Aetna allows you to do certain things at Elson Student Health Center for free (flu shots, ostensibly annual exams if they had enough doctors and didn't send everyone elsewhere, sinus infection visits, etc.). So I guess it depends on whether you are planning to see a private doctor elsewhere anyway.

Is it worth getting? I'm not sure what new features it has to offer.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the quick turn-around on the laptop loan increase. I sent my request in around 5pm yesterday, already got my increase this morning. Now if only our loans could get dispersed this speedily...

I'm looking into this one too. Frustrating that vision is not covered. This is probably the most frustrating research I've done in a long time. Anyone else have any other places they are looking other than UnitedHealth and Aetna and outside of parents?

Can anyone give me the address that I am supposed to send my transcripts to, so I can prove I'm a graduate.

580 Massie Road
Office of Admissions
Charlottesville, VA 22903

This was the one I sent mine to and they received it. Too bad it wasn't enough, but back to your question - that's the address.

Call or email them. I recall doing that myself last year.

I received a call from them - but that was to inform me that I had to get a Letter of Intent to Graduate. So, I don't know if my siutation is different. I will say, those folks are pretty nice and they didn't give any indication of being bothered if you called up there to confirm that its been received.
