Kind of random, but does anyone plan on doing the long distance thing while in school (for those currently at UVA law -- know anyone that is doing it?) ? My gf and I are going to talk about it soon... We both have mixed feelings about it.

I am. We will be about 5 hours away by car. I have done it throughout undergrad though so it's nothing new to me, though we did only live 3 hours apart in undergrad. It's certainly not great and it can be hard to get around schedules. Sometimes it's better to pick the weekends you will spend together then schedule life around that as opposed to trying to fit visits in once your schedule takes over.

1) No, they haven't.

2) They never have. It isn't an ITE policy. UVA has never published statistics about OGI for its students or for others. Plenty of schools don't, it's not like we're all waiting for other schools to finalyl get around to doing it. "even Cornell has"? wtf. Take off the tinfoil hat.

Don't do it! He/she just wants to get into your mind!

I did the four installments plan. So I paid about $500. Once I get my loan money I was going to just pay the rest in one lump sum.

I thought about doing that Doritos. Did they charge your account immediately or will they charge it after the service begins in August?

edit: what a quote fail. I meant to say it charged me immediately

When is our fist semester tuition due? Is it all on our August bill? Do we get sent our bills on Law Web? Sorry if these are stupid questions.

I am finally moving in to my apt in Arlington Court tomorrow! Was wondering if anyone who is in town would be nice enough to help me take a couple of the big stuff (couch, etc.) off the moving truck? Please PM me if you'll be available some time tomorrow afternoon. Thanks in advance!

It says on SIS that it's all due (including tuition) August 17th. So my question is, based on what older students are saying, how exactly are we supposed to pay that by the due date if our loans aren't dispersed until after that day? I don't exactly have a spare 20k lying around.

Last year (and I'm pretty sure this year), your anticipated loan amount will count as "paying" your balance (unless the loan ultimately doesn't go through), regardless of the actual disbursement date.

Thanks YCR

Didn't know they don't get released. I only said the thing about cornell because their stats were pretty bad and they still release them.

I think this has been mentioned before, but how much is MS office with the student discount at UVA? And would I need a student ID card for that or just my shining face and a ID #...

Has anyone heard, or even know if we hear about the status of our computer allowance. Do they ever reject your request?

As far as I know, $10. I'd guess you need an actual student ID but not sure.

As a point of comparison (dunno how expensive MS Office is in person), I was able to register for Microsoft Office Professional Academic 2010 with Microsoft for 79.95, and that comes with Word, PPT, Excel, OneNote, Access, Outlook, and Publisher. Dunno what version they have available in person at the computer store, but online the best thing I saw from CC was Office Pro 2007 for $179, and Office Standard 2007 for $139.

What I did was go to an online store and find a copy of MS Office Home and Student 2007 and have it ordered, I then turned around and activated it, and used the technology guarantee thing that's running with MS till the end of September to get the equivalent version in 2010 FREE. The upshot to this is that each copy of home and student comes with 3 computer licenses (giving me 6 total), and though I don't know if MS is cracking down on multiple installs for one computer license, I wouldn't put it past them to do something like that, especially as online activation is required for unlock.

I have a lot of computers, so that's what works best for me...

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong program? I thought there was something for $10 at the store.

Ah, man! I thought it was a $10 discount. I probably could've bought a bunch of those licenses then, if I'd realized. You maybe can still do the tech guarantee though Microsoft and get the 2010 versions (though I dunno if they have restrictions on specially purchased academic versions from schools)...

Nice! Yeah, I need 4 computers worth of Office software, so that would have been a downer once the discount disappeared...

YCR is credited. I did that last year; bought the iPod touch with the laptop bundle (they must be on the same receipt!) and mailed everything in, got my rebate check a few weeks later.
