Re: UVA Class of 2013
Hello, All.
I am a female entering 1L looking to share a two-bedroom at the Jeffersonian. The place is unfurnished, with rent amounting to $390/month/person (excluding cable, phone and electricity.) The lease begins on August 1st. The complex is a five-minute walk from the school and Barracks shopping center. http://www.jeffersonianapartments.com/.
As for me, I recently finished undergrad at the University of Washington. I am neat, organized and pretty quiet. I am not a partier and would prefer a similar roommate. Aside from that and the usual desire for no smoking or pets, I am fairly open.
If interested, PM me.

Re: UVA Class of 2013
While we're on the topic of housing, I called Ivy Gardens today regarding my application/deposit submitted on April 12th-- she told me I could expect an "offer" within the next 2 weeks.
I know other people were emailed leases in a matter of days, so I wanted to assuage the fears of anyone else in a similar position that no, they are not out of apartments, they just have a slower turn around time as things get busier!
Edit: Just received my lease today, they aren't actually that slow.

I'm confused as to the difference between lottery and "Top 5". Do you definitely get your Top 5 interviews no matter what?YCrevolution wrote:New OGI system announced (effective Class of 2012 which has 2L OGI this upcoming fall):The first 60% of the candidates will be pre‐selected by

The second 20% of the candidates will be selected from

students that selected a particular firm with one of their
top 5 bids, EXCLUDING THOSE STUDENTS WHO HAVE
BEEN PRE‐SELECTED. In other words, the firms will not
be able to use the lists to determine how their preselected
students ranked the firm.
The final 20% will be lottery. For an explanation of how
the lottery works, see [etc.]

And could you remind us what the old policy was? Thanks.

Got it. Though a lot of people always hated on UVA's "Firm select the student" OGI format, I always kind of appreciated it. If a firm had no interest in hiring me, I wouldn't want to waste my time prepping for those interviews.

I agree, but the success does depend a bit more heavily on the quality of the bidding strategy of each student with that type of format. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just an observation.wackjickham wrote:Got it. Though a lot of people always hated on UVA's "Firm select the student" OGI format, I always kind of appreciated it. Dean Donovan mentioned it at ASW, I think it's probably a good addition for students and employers on the whole. Always pros and cons, but such is life.YCrevolution wrote:It just got officially released this evening, although rumors of something like this have been around for at least the past couple of months. To the extent that top third with work experience and good interviewing is now officially highly recommended, they seem plenty transparent.D Brooks wrote:Would it be too much to email OCS this article: --LinkRemoved-- ?

Re: UVA Class of 2013
Still too many lottery or lottery-lite spots in my opinion. If you love a firm that much and don't get it due to a small lottery, then special request and if your rationale is actually that compelling, they'll most likely give you an interview. Too many lottery people are dead on arrival when they walk in the door so it seems like a waste of time. Not sure what the new policy is but I think they should just make the maximum # of interviews 25 at the most. Even in this economy, if you go 0 for 20 or 0 for 25 then you likely would've gone 0 for 30 or 0 for 35 too so that seems like a better way to distribute interviews to make sure everyone gets some. Other than that, I think 80/20 is fair and doesn't end up with a lot of people wasting their time.

When do you find out if you've been pre-selected, or otherwise selected for an interview?YCrevolution wrote:New OGI system announced (effective Class of 2012 which has 2L OGI this upcoming fall):The first 60% of the candidates will be pre‐selected by

Different dates for each. The timeline for the entire process is like 3 months long. This is for c/o 2012 though so all these details would be different for you.slider wrote:When do you find out if you've been pre-selected, or otherwise selected for an interview?YCrevolution wrote:New OGI system announced (effective Class of 2012 which has 2L OGI this upcoming fall):The first 60% of the candidates will be pre‐selected by

Re: UVA Class of 2013
Well, I'd imagine that since you know where you placed your bids you also know how you got your interview. It would seem rather odd even if allowed to cross bid a firm since the categories seem discrete.FeuerFrei wrote:If you are selected for an interview, will you know how you got it (chosen by firm, lottery, b/c of top 5)?YCrevolution wrote:New OGI system announced (effective Class of 2012 which has 2L OGI this upcoming fall):The first 60% of the candidates will be pre‐selected by

Re: UVA Class of 2013
I have mixed feelings about the benefit of good groups of advisors. By weeding out the bad advisors, you miss out on credible, valuable perspectives. You run the risk of getting advisors who say that the worst case scenario is a B+ when the real worst case scenario is a D.gladiator wrote:To all of your benefit, it seems like the peer advisor selections were good this year, better than last year so from what I've heard so far, you should get some good groups of advisors.
