Goshdarn, this is going to be two straight semesters of the worst grades I've had in my collegiate career. Seems like I'll be sending my transcript in at the last minute for more than one reason...

Yeah, I'm wondering if there is a way to ask that professionally, to see if they will reconsider our financial aid in light of being willing to defer a year?jnorsky wrote:slider wrote:Apparently there are people being offered money to defer. Re: UVA Class of 2013
I think you could broach the subject by inquiring about the deferment process in general. You could basically say you are interested in finding out more about the process and ask how financial aid works if one defers. If you are thinking of deferring because of the money you could explain that you would like to have a year to work to help offset the costs of law school and such. From here you can ask if there would be any sort of benefit wrt financial aid if you deferred. Seems professional to me. Just be upfront and honest the admissions people are really fantastic. From everything I've read they are overenrolled and you deferring would probably be doing them a favoroneforship wrote:Yeah, I'm wondering if there is a way to ask that professionally, to see if they will reconsider our financial aid in light of being willing to defer a year?jnorsky wrote:slider wrote:Apparently there are people being offered money to defer. And every year you defer is one year further from ITE.

Not a bad deal. But I personally, am just thinking of getting the Macbook Pro from Apple for $1099 w/the $100 student discount they give you.

Yeah I was thinking of doing the same thing... what are the benefits of buying the computer with the "law school" bundle from UVA? What exactly is worth that extra $400?whattodo2008 wrote:badwithpseudonyms wrote:Has anyone tried the links on UVA website? Faster access to repair/support for warranty service. Also ability to get a loaner laptop from the school if yours fails. Not worth the extra money in my opinion.[/quote]
you also get MS Office and a 3-year warranty.

Also, getting a macbook pro online, doesn't require paying tax (I think), plus free shipping. So that's another saving there. I don't know sales tax in VA but let's assume 9%, that would be around $135 extra!

YCrevolution wrote:Yup. You can also get a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate for $10 along with some other software for $10 each (can't remember it all). They also have highly-reduced rates on a lot of software. I picked up MS Expression Web 3 for less than $30, and they've got the older version of Adobe's Creative Suite for less than $100 (I'm hoping they get the latest version at some point).whattodo2008 wrote:YCrevolution wrote:I don't know Apple's extended warranty costs, but you can get the latest version of MS Office for $10 from the campus bookstore, though.whattodo2008 wrote: you also get MS Office and a 3-year warranty.

The warranty costs $250...--LinkRemoved--YCrevolution wrote:I don't know Apple's extended warranty costs, but you can get the latest version of MS Office for $10 from the campus bookstore, though.whattodo2008 wrote: you also get MS Office and a 3-year warranty.
So if you get the warranty the price is now $1,448 (with free shipping). The macbook on apple's website does have twice the RAM (4GB v. 2GB) and a bigger HD (250GB v. 160GB). So the real question here is are you willing to sacrifice some performance and space and get the UVa bundle which comes with a few extras (if you get a laptop before June 27 you get a free printer, also it comes with a security cord, surge protector, and printer paper) and the ability to get a loaner laptop if things go wrong.

Guess no one else tried the link on the Dell. They both link to the MacBook. That's all I meant.whattodo2008 wrote:badwithpseudonyms wrote:Has anyone tried the links on UVA website? Last year they updated the bundles during the summer due to the fact that Apple refreshed the lineup and the old models weren't available anymore. I would expect something similar to happen here. Since they don't fill the orders until July, they kind of have no choice, they'll have to order the newer model. They'll realize it and announce the change at some point.Doritos wrote:The warranty costs $250...--LinkRemoved--YCrevolution wrote:I don't know Apple's extended warranty costs, but you can get the latest version of MS Office for $10 from the campus bookstore, though.whattodo2008 wrote: you also get MS Office and a 3-year warranty.

I think these are last year's models. If you click on the Mac, the free printer offer says it goes through June 27, 2009. The Mac also says it comes with OS 10.5 and that hasn't been sold on new computers since late last summer.vanwinkle wrote:Last year they updated the bundles during the summer due to the fact that Apple refreshed the lineup and the old models weren't available anymore. "The university's Board of Visitors met on April 30, 2010 and approved the 2010-2011 Tuition and Fees. Subsequently, the university?s Committee on Financial Aid met and approved the Law School?s cost of attendance (COA) budgets. Nonresident tuition for the Class of 2013 for the 2010-2011 academic year is $47,500 and resident tuition is $42,500. Nonresident COA is $67,700 and resident COA is $62,700. The way I read this, it means that particular figure only applies to class of 2013. I guess . . .
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
