held over to regular decision pool (3.96/166).....very dissapointed =-(.....When does everyone think the optimal time period for a LOCI would be? I'm pretty sure I would take UT over many other schools ranked in the upper T14 even if I was accepted to them, and will be sorely dissapointed if I don't get in (possibly to the point of taking a year off and re-taking the LSAT)

Does anyone know if there are any ways to increase your scholarship offer at UT if you get accepted to higher-ranked schools or get a better scholarship offer at a peer?

Yes...you can snail mail or email (need to contact the admissions peeps @ (512) 232-1200 to make sure) your competing offers to the admissions people and they will get back to you. It took me about 6 weeks to get a reply.

I heard they only match once though, so wait until you receive offers/acceptances.

Hey all, I've been in for a while now since the 26th of October. I didn't get a scholly off the bat, did any of you receive your offers a little while after initial acceptance? I am guessing I'll have to go through their match program otherwise, any thoughts would be helpful.

what are your #s? anything below 168/3.7 will not be getting anythingranovr32 wrote:Hey all, I've been in for a while now since the 26th of October. In at UT via a call from admissions today after being held over to regular decision on 11/25 way sooner than I expected to hear from them.

Yeah they did. Your big concern about law schools is: am I going to get a good job? (i.e. clerkship, PI, high-paying, or top government) We're hearing that Michigan requires top 30% to land one, and NYU is at top 50%. Texas is almost as good as NYU for landing a job. In terms of prospects, success of its graduates, faculties, and clinical opportunities, UT is definitely top ten right now.CandyLand wrote:I submitted my ED application ON Nov. 1, and I just got a phone call today telling me that I was accepted and they will be sending me a scholarship offer soon. I was pretty surprised to hear back so fast. I'm in-state, 170 LSAT, 3.8 gpa.
UT is definitely one of the very best law school options in this economy. There's going to be such a backlog of law school grads since so many firms are not hiring or even doing on campus interviews this year. Not the best time to take on all that debt. NY Times had a great article about this back in August.

Is anyone looking to buy a house in Austin TX? Does anyone know what areas are good residential areas?

Why, are you thinking of buying in Austin? If I had that kind of money, I would not hesitate to buy in a common ownership agreement, but I don't. I have talked with UT law students about where to live, and the same area seemed to be mentioned frequently. I don't know, does anyone know about the graduate housing? That would seem to be a low stress option. Anyway, I have a lot of research to do.Apple Tree wrote:Is anyone looking to buy a house in Austin TX? Honestly, considering the size of UT law, I'm really surprised there aren't more people posting here. Oh well, I guess there are only a few of us Early Decision people that have received the glossy acceptance materials.
Can you say, "Studio Apartment?"

I will definitely be attending and I might be interested in sharing an apartment/house with some other lucky 1Ls.
Anyone have a mansion they'd be willing to share?

I personally like Hyde Park. It's close enough to campus that I never have to drive, and it's far enough away that I'm not surrounded by late-night idiocy.

JazzOne (or anyone who knows the information), can you please recommend an apartment complex/management company in Hyde park? Or ar they all about the same? How much does it usually cost to get a 2b/1b (or 2b) apartment? Would it be cheaper to live in far west? But how far away is that neighborhood from the law school building?
I have no idea how to choose an apartment...I don't want to end up in a shady area or live too far away from the school, but it's all very hard to know that when I'm in another state
