I was there -- blonde, jeans, striped black and white shirt. I was pretty glad that I went. I almost considered not going since I had family in town.

I remember you "shorts guy" :D

I'm pretty excited. Can't wait for the semester to start!

This is true...hahaha! But it wasn't meant in a bad way. I felt like I fit in pretty good dressed in jeans. I didn't think shorts were unacceptable by any means.

Shorts are fine.

I like the way "shorts guy" thinks!

If they wanted me to dress up, they should have done interviews

I've done the following:
1. Sent in the full deposit
2. Had an official transcript sent to the school
3. Filled out the health record form (need to send that in)
4. Filled out the FASFA with SMU's code
5. Logged into my Access SMU account and email

Eventually, SMU will deal with the FASFA and I'll need to do the rest of the stuff to get the loan money flowing.... but is there anything else I'm missing? I'm probably just paranoid, but I would hate to overlook something important.

I'm pretty sure you have everything covered!
Just so everyone knows, I've been calling the admissions office every now and then (yes, I was "that" student) to check on the status of my enrollment, financial aid, etc. They typically don't get to law school fin aid until June-- so no worries there, if yours isn't finished yet-- and our class schedules should be done in July.

Also... I was out of town for EVERY asd!! :( Can anyone tell me what I missed? I feel like I'm going to be the one who shows up to the first day clueless, bookless, knowedge-less... and then get called on! Thanks!

I still need to send in my medical form, but I'm in the same boat...just waiting for my financial aid info and schedule. I also missed all the ASDs, so I second the request for what I missed.

I'll be there full-time, and don't plan on having a job during our first year.

FT here, this will be the first time in ten years that I won't have a job. It's unnerving to say the least.

I will be FT in the fall and have lived in Dallas since graduating in 2006. I think that anyone looking for housing should check out the M-Streets and Knox-Henderson (on the west side of 75). There are several new apartment complexes just west of 75 that have some good deals (Belmont and Easton to name a couple). In addition, the M-Streets have numerous houses for rent that aren't too bad if you have 2-3 people splitting the costs. The feel is much more Austin-like meaning more parking, more trees, less traffic and just a cooler scene, IMO. Uptown is a cool place, but living there make life stressful (traffic, parking, noise, etc...).

I would recommend driving through the M-Streets (streets starting with 'M' near SMU: Monticello, McCommas, Malcolm, etc...) area and collecting numbers/addresses. Many of the houses are "for rent by owner" and may not be listed anywhere online.

Knox-Henderson has a ton of cool bars and restaurants and is 2 miles away from campus...just my .02

Thanks for the insigh on this I also thought The Belmont looked nice. What about some of the complexes in "The Village?" Some seem fairly nice and affordable and pretty close to campus.

Could anyone comment on the differences between the complexes within "The Village?" They all look very similar from their websites and I was wondering if there is any meaningful difference between them. I was looking at The Bend, The Green, The Hill, The Bluffs, etc. Thanks

There's a big difference between many of the complexes. There's also a big difference in rent, too.

Some are gated, some aren't. Some are pretty darn old, some aren't.

I would suggest visiting if you can and going through the different areas to make your choice. Their website doesn't do much justice.

Is anyone else extremely frustrated that we haven't received our financial aid packages yet? This is ridiculous. I received financial aid packages from two schools back in March!! Ugh, I know they said June but I was really hoping that was June 1st. C'mon SMU I need to tally how much I need to apply for in Grad Plus!

They said that they encountered a software error causing the delay...

I got an email from another university's financial aid office (went there for my MA) and they said there will be a delay in sending out info because of the big changes to the loan providers and practices. They said info would be sent out June 18th. Not sure if this is also causing a delay for SMU, but just passing on something I received/heard.

I really need to get my aid shit together ASAP too...

Hey guys!

If any of y'all are still looking for a place to live next year, my boyfriend is an SMU Law Alum, and he asked me to post on here about 2 rooms he has for rent in his house. The house is about 15 minutes from campus in the Lakewood area. There is a seperate full bathroom with a walk in closet, with an additional closet in each of the two bedrooms. The bedrooms are not furnished, but microwave, refridgerator, washer, dryer, etc are of course included. I believe he is asking $600, and I am not sure whether or not he has chosen to fully cover utilities.

If you are interested in more details, PM me and I can get you his e-mail address (he is of course much more knowledgable about this than me!). :)

^^^^

For people not familiar with Dallas, Lakewood is one of the best areas of the city.
