SNR Denton - top 10% required; include in cover letter why you want to work in Dallas; prefer advanced degrees in life science and mechanical / electrical engineering.

I recently overheard some of our classmates discussing how you and I would be the perfect choices for LR. They seem to think that we are not only gifted writers and editors, but consummate professionals and genuinely nice guys.

I was talking about it with Crespi the other day at the gym. Y'all are held in high regard by the entire faculty and staff.

Some other OCI info -

Will be 35 bids for August program. No limit on Resume Collection or Houston Program. Some interviews are 20 minutes, some 30. If you get a callback, expect to spend at least half the day at the office. Bad to bid on all offices with a potential firm, so pick one or two.

Historic data -

2009:

Top 10% - bid for as few as 13 (8 interviews) up to 33 (27 interviews). Average number of bids was 20 ad they received 75% of their screening interviews.

Top 25% - most bid 20 - 25 and received 50% interviews. Even at 25th percentile, bid for the full 35 received half or more.

Top 33% - most bid 30-35, received less than half. Some quite a bit less if they bid firms with strict hiring criteria.

Top 50% - bid 35, received about 25% interviews.

Below top 50% - bid 35, received less than 5 interviews.



All students in the top 10%, 25%, and 33% participated. All but 3 in the top 50%. Below top 50%, 70% of student participated. Only 9 students who participated in the August and Phase II programs did not receive interviews.

I'm confused as to whether we may or may not bid on more than one office of the same firm. Like Fulbright is listed twice, once for Dallas and once for San Antonio. Can we only bid on one of those?

Bid on whoever you wish, regardless of criteria. Firms tend to, by all accounts, exaggerate their preferences.

Also, Sir Beta, the interview / bidding info I posted is from OCS. In your wisdom, does it look vaguely accurate? Or are they overinflating the numbers?

Under the OCI tab, I believe the "total slots" column on the right is the number of interviews each employer will conduct at OCI.

This is what makes me skeptical of the idea that many firms dip below their posted grade cutoffs. Most firms have 19 or less slots and six firms have 38. 19 slots doesn't even cover 10% of the student body and 38 barely covers 15% (without counting transfers).

I don't believe the Houston/resume collection bids count against the 35. And Kal, I think the entire class could bid on a particular firm, and the firm will then choose which 18 or however many to interview. Thus, it wouldn't matter in what order you bid or on which day you bid. I think the best way to pick which firms to exclude is to go to their websites and see what kind of attorneys they have. If it's a bunch of HLS grads and a few SMU grads who are all Coif, and you are top 50%, you might be wasting a bid on that one. Of course, if you have a rock-solid connection and/or are a super hot chick who can convey that fact on your resume, the cutoff becomes meaningless.
