Class of 2013 Survey (PC or Mac)
I figure this could produce interesting results. How many are planning on PCs and how many on Macs for those going to law school this coming fall? I've heard a lot of people talking about switching to Macs for law school.

The new macs can have windows on them so the testing software can be on that partition with windows. Macs are the way to go.

Found some really good information for anyone wondering about how a mac would do a particular law school:

If you scroll toward the bottom there is a list of a lot of schools and what they think about macs.

Mac is the only credited response.

I'm surprised at the ratio so far. I didn't realize Macs were so popular in the legal field.lawduder wrote:Mac is the only credited response.

Re: Class of 2013 Survey (PC or Mac)
My school is one that specifically does not allow macs on exams so I bought a new laptop this last week and will be buying a tablet this week. Getting it narrowed down. Both operating with windows.
I've honestly never had the troubles most folks have with windows. I've also been on computers since my first apple computer in 1986. If you take care of them right you'll have no problems

I think it has more to due with the age group than the profession. It really says something about the future of computing. Once all of the older users are out of the market it is hard to see how Microsoft will continue its historical hegemony.Torvon wrote:I'm surprised at the ratio so far. I think its more a function of the overwhelming amount of young, trendy, hipsters on TLS.Torvon wrote:I'm surprised at the ratio so far. I didn't realize Macs were so popular in the legal field.lawduder wrote:Mac is the only credited response.
Maybe they can try to finally make something that is aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. Vista was halfway there.. havent tried 7 yet.Once all of the older users are out of the market it is hard to see how Microsoft will continue its historical hegemony.

This is something I have looked at while attending classes at various schools while visiting. I was surprised to find that a majority of students use Macs. That said I will be sticking with a PC laptop.

Worked in a computer lab freshman year and was turned off macs for good. Will NEVER use one. Ew. PC all day.

I thought I might need to use a PC, but apparently Exam4 runs native on Macs, so I'm sticking with a Mac. I grew up using Macs, my parents got their first Mac in 1982, and I've never owned anything else, so I am glad not to have to make the change.

7's solid. Everything just works, networking is a cinch, it's fast and stable, etc. It should have been Vista.pleasetryagain wrote:Maybe they can try to finally make something that is aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. Vista was halfway there.. havent tried 7 yet.
I'm a PC user, but hardly some sort of fanboy. I just like video games too much for mac (or to figure out / pay for WINE, etc.)

I was using computers then. Macs weren't available yet. Im sure some dorky user will look it up and enlighten us.
Before 1986 I had learned on other's computers and I remember some ATT computers and whatnot, but definitely no macs in 1982.

no apologies. I shouldn't have posted, not only do I feel silly for correcting you, but now I feel really damn old and I didn't need that today

Re: Class of 2013 Survey (PC or Mac)
No problem, I don't mind being corrected. I just new that they got one the year they came out, which I thought was 1982, but apparently it was 1984. Incidentally, that was the year I was born, which, by TLS standards, makes me relatively old as well.evilxs wrote:no apologies. Dual booting Ubuntu and Windows 7. Macs are for tools.

I used a mac through college and loved it. I'm going to buy another one for LS.

+1, except Vista instead of Windows 7 unless I decide to put the effort into getting a copy.snickersnicker wrote:Dual booting Ubuntu and Windows 7. Macs are for tools.

I had no idea there were so many freedom-hating communists on TLS.

btw, windows 7 is nice, finally something worth changing from xp. feels a little odd at first though.
i can't think of one reason why getting a mac is a better idea than getting a pc.

Re: Class of 2013 Survey (PC or Mac)
So is there something about TLS that favors Mac or do you think this is a relatively accurate sample of overall law school attendees? For some reason I was under the impression that Mac was always the minority except for maybe in video/movie production.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
